Randox
My computer, when turned on, just gives a blank screen and beeps for about 2 seconds, and then pauses for another couple secs before beeping again (its a long continus beep). The computer stoped working right after it was set to overclock the proccesor. Is there anything I can do for it or am I lookign a a new CMOS chip or new proccessor? Jaziek
:wall: :wall: :wall: ............. :wall: :wall: unlucky. if its doing that its probably the processor getting madly overheated.. so maybe a new cmos chip, if the processor hasnt fried itself. Parabola
Try using the reset CMOS jumper, then post back. Also see if you can find your motherboard manual - they normally have explanations of the bleep codes.
Randox
whats a cmos jumper, something to reset the chip without turning ont he machine? And can a proccesor overheat in just a few seconds, I thought it would take a minute or 2.
Randox
Ive tried resetting the cmos/bios by the manual, now my computer does this: ...beep.....beep..beep.....beep.... So now im thinking that I might have fried it by running to long on ba dfrequency settings, cause its still doing the blank screen thing. Are there any standards for beep meanings because I cant find anything that says what the beeps mean (there short now). So now my computer dosent sound like its gonna blow up, but it still aint working :( , ill probaly end up taking it to a computer reapir place. At least I have this laptop to entertain me while my comp is down.... Update: It's an AMI BIOS and I think its giving 4 beeps even though there irregular timing. If its standard than that would mean that its a system timer failure, but this is not from the manual so I might have a different code system. If it is timer failure, I need a new mother board :x This is good: Normally an AMI BIOS wont bother beeping, it will display a nice error message, but if the video card dosent work or there is something seriously wrong, it will start beeping. Im looking at various solutions for various beeps, and basicly once an AMI BIOS beeps more than once (which means everything is a ok) you need a new mother board, though there are exceptions. Edit 2: And if im really being stupid and I have a Phenoix BIOS, the lenth of the pauses is a 1-2-1 code which means Programable interval timer failure, or I think basicly the same thing, so I guess it is new mothe r board for me. blade995
Are you sure you reset the bios properly? How much did you overclock this chip? How much extra voltage did you give it? What kind of processor is it? The motherboard is probilly not fried if you were overclocking the processor. Even if you added extra voltage to the chipset the motherboard should not allow to add so much that it fried just like that.
Randox
I didnt add any extra voltage, and If I understood what I was doing at all I overclocked about 23mhz over normal, and if I read it wrong than I incresed to just over twice the normal speed, but i think it was just a small increse. And im quite sure it was reset properly because I am no longer getting a beep that, on some systems would signal serious over heating, insted its telling me the timer stoped working. The processor is a AMD K7.

The processor is a AMD K7. If you only overclocked by 23mhz it would not overheat if it wasn't overheating at stock speed. Although some motherboard's are **** and fry overclocking at all over stock speed and you may have one of those. If you do want to overclock after getting a new motherboard read tons of guides, read every overclocking guide you can find before you do any overclocking. K7's ran on socket A, they stopped making them a long time ago so good luck finding a new motherboard. You may have to look on Ebay for one. Randox
In theory, it wont matter what mother board I use will it, or if I use something different will I lose all my files? And it is possible that when it showed the 2 speeds it meant that overcloack was in addition to normal speed in which case I more than doubled it #-o
rodl
I use something different will I lose all my files? Files are stored on a hard drive so you won't lose your data.
Randox
I might have another option. tommarow Ill open the case, I found the physical jumper switch so I will try re-seting using that. Then i'll probloly go for a new motherboard and I guess a new proccesor, cause they might both be ruined, and I think there attached to eachother anyway (as 1 unit)

You didn't reset the physical jumper switch? Then what did you reset the first time?
Goac
1 or 2 seconds would not have fried your cpu at only 23mhz overclock unless you put mad voltage to it. Try pulling your BIOS battery before starting your computer because with some mobo models this will make the BIOS lose all data and reset to defaults also reset the jumper switch. Hope that gets you going. :) ~Goac
Randox
The first time the manual said turn off the computer, hold the pg up key and turn back on, all it did was cange the beeps. And the switch, I think it deplets the BIOS batterey giving a physical reset, ill post how that goes tomarow. And as far as I know I gave it no extra voltage. Randox
Thank you to all the people who gave me suggestions. After physicly re-setting the CMOS chip (not fun :wall: ) my computer works just fine, Although I still hjave to sort out the clock, all the time settings were lost.
