March 25, 200719 yr I came home yesterday to realize that google.com now always redirects me to google.co.uk. No matter what I try, I will always be redirected. I live in Ohio, so I don't really understand why this is happening. I have cleared my cache and cookies and that has done nothing. Is google looking at my IP address incorrectly and is assuming that I live in the UK or does someone believe this may be an issue I could resolve on my end. This isn't a really big issue, just wondering why it is happening. Thanks in advance.

March 25, 200719 yr Author I'm unaware of any Windows settings that can be changed to show what country you are from. If you are talking about the 'Date and Time Properties' dialog box, I have it set for Eastern Time (US and Canada), but I do not see what that would have to do with the problem other than affecting the date and time on my computer.
March 26, 200719 yr You're correct in thinking it will have no effect. Google uses geo-ip software to pull up location by IP address, which is why you're being redirected to the UK site. The addresss you're using is mis-classified as being in the UK. :? Redialing or resetting your cable/dsl modem should get you a new IP and hopefully fix your problem.
March 26, 200719 yr Try clearing your cache as google may be picking up the uk from one of them. March 26, 200719 yr Next time before asking for help, at least google it. Also read what Cruiser wrote 2 posts above. Good luck.
March 26, 200719 yr Author I have my country set for the right place, I cleared my cache and I reset my cable modem, but none of those ideas worked. I got a letter in the mail today from Time Warner stating they were trying to convert everything over from Adelphia (Time Warner bought out Adelphia here) and the date they gave for the convert process was the date this problem occured - so I think it's safe to assume it's just my ISP. Thanks guys for the help tho, much appreciated.
March 28, 200719 yr That is really wierd. I always get redirected like that but to .ca. but i am in Canada so w.e.
March 29, 200719 yr why do you care its not that big of a deal realy Yes it is a big deal. The UK version of Google (and every other localized version) returns country specific domains first. If you are using google.co.uk, you will get .co.uk websites over US based sites because it assumes that is what you are looking for. A US search for parliament, returns Wikipedia first, followed by a bunch of other unrelated websites. The UK search for parliament returns parliament.uk along with many other British government coverage that the US version didn't touch because it assumes you are looking for British parliament news.
