xvillexvalox
The topic is borrowing. In more specific terms, borrowing other's opinions. Over the years in my life, one thing has annoyed me more than anything else, the lack of individual opinions. And this topic, there are many sub-topics to cover. Topic0.1 - Religion Topic0.2 - Politics Topic0.3 - Living Daily Life Topic0.4 - Morals Topic0.5 - Scientific Theories Topic0.6 - Making Life Decisions A short introduction - Why is it that people don't chose their own beliefs, and when looking for beliefs, they use others, instead of creating their own to not have any discrepincies in what you believe. If you believe in what you want to believe and not a specific guideline, as you come to different realizations you can change your beliefs instead of creating a unrational excuse to why "that" happened and "this" is still the right thing to believe. Topic0.1 - Religion Religion, this is the almighty guide book to life and towers over any other "guide" to live your life. Most of the time, you are raised into a religion, and you don't get your own choice. Most of you have done research on religions in a world history class at some point, so I ask to you, what if you were to do/have that research said to you at a young age? What would you have picked? Atheisim? Hinduism? Christianity? But at a young age you wouldn't know what to pick, you would probably ask what your parents are, if they'd answer this would be an unfair advantage to the religion of their choice. This works off of the same logic as why teachers aren't allowed to state who they're voting for in elections, because the authority children see in them would make something in their brain click and try to be like them. How would you pick yuor religion? By what's best for you? By what's best for the Earth? By what is promised in the future? or By what seems moral and logical to you? Realistically that last option fits best for most of us, because it wouldn't have us constrained to be a single religion for the rest of our lives and base all our beliefs off of it, you can pay respect to a god but still disagree with him/her. Topic0.2 - Politics Teachers aren't allowed to tell you who they vote for because it might influence you. This is what I call "The Rolemodel Rule". "The Rolemodel Rule" is this: If a rolemodel figure in your early life has an opinion, you will be more likely to share the same opinion later in life. "The Rolemodel Rule" works because of this: - At young ages children are susceptable to authority figures. - Your parents who raise you and are always a rolemodel for your life until your teen years. - Your parents will tell you who to listen to and respect, on yuor first day of school they've probably said "Do what ever the teacher asks, and be nice" Back to politics, many teens watch shows such as The Colbert Report and The Daily Show, but some will rely on those shows to decide your position on political events. If you catch yourself agreeing with topic on these shows thats okay, as long as once they start talking about a topic you're not aware of, and you simpley decide to go with their opinion instead of settling on your own. In the world today, someone could manipulate followers this way. Basically... I'll lower taxes! (yay!) I'll raise school funding! (yay!) etc... (yay!) I'll go to war with terrorists in France! (Yay!, wait, what did he just say? Well, he should know what he's talking about) I'll probably finish the rest later  But, discuss away! For fun, I interveiw one of my freinds who an "compulsive borrower" (in my eyes). [hide=interview!] xIlI0l0IlIx: I want to ask you some questions. *****: ok you̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll have to do it in a minute xIlI0l0IlIx: I won't tell you why until the end, nor will I respond to your answers. xIlI0l0IlIx: so.. You̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re back? xIlI0l0IlIx: alright well here we go xIlI0l0IlIx: Q#1. xIlI0l0IlIx: What religion are you? *****: Christian reform. xIlI0l0IlIx: What religion are your parents? *****: (why am I telling you this) my dad grew up with a not religious family, so he went to church with the neighbors. my mom grew up Christian with very hardcore Christian parents. xIlI0l0IlIx: Since when have you lived your life with this religion? *****: ever since I was born. Well to be exact, 4. xIlI0l0IlIx: What is your political stance? *****: DEMOCRAT. xIlI0l0IlIx: Do you watch any liberal TV shows regularly (ex: The Daily show) xIlI0l0IlIx: If yes, since when? *****: I don't watch much TV. But I watch David letterman! *****: : this summer, since I was staying up late being bored xIlI0l0IlIx: What are your parent's political stance and when did you decide on yours? *****: democrats. I decided ...idk when...since I could think straight, I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve always known how I feel about events in life. My view fit that of a liberal's. xIlI0l0IlIx: Do you view any democratic website/magazine/etc. regularly? *****: yes. xIlI0l0IlIx: How many different sources? *****: 3 aprox. xIlI0l0IlIx: Do they all agree with each other? *****: I don't memorize what they all say. xIlI0l0IlIx: Well, have you noticed any inconsistencies in their stances? *****: well, they all deal with different topics, so it's hard to say. xIlI0l0IlIx: so basically you have a source for "These" topics, a source for "that" topic and a source for "those" topics? *****: I guess you could say that. where is this going? xIlI0l0IlIx: I told you I won't tell you until the end. xIlI0l0IlIx: You're vegetarian, are your parents? *****: I am, they are not. xIlI0l0IlIx: Is there anything that influenced you to be? (a person or group, TV show, magazine...) *****: I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve always thought that eating a dead animal was repulsive. So I finally decided to give it all up about a year ago. I did it mainly for my health. but also for compassion of animals and environmental purposes. xIlI0l0IlIx: I wasn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t talking about that kind of influence. *****: well then no. I did it on my own. xIlI0l0IlIx: I meant a group like Peta, or maybe a public speaker. *****: nope. *****: I didn't get involved with them [Peta] until a few months ago. xIlI0l0IlIx: Now, would you safely say you agree with them on most topics? *****: yes, almost. I still wear leather products though. xIlI0l0IlIx: In general what affects your decisions, beliefs and opinions the most? *****: my thoughts. My personality. What gets me through the day. Whatever inspires me. xIlI0l0IlIx: Follow-up... xIlI0l0IlIx: What has influenced your thoughts, what inspires you, what has shaped your personality? xIlI0l0IlIx: By "What" I mean a person, a group, a magazine, a TV show, a teacher, a parent, a relative, a friend, and so on. *****: this is so stupid. *****: are you being paid to do this? xIlI0l0IlIx: Please answer the question. *****: none of those things have made me who I am now. well I spoke too soon. I started watching the Simpsons when I was a baby, that what gave me a good sense of humor. xIlI0l0IlIx: I'd disagree. xIlI0l0IlIx: there might be another simple question or two *****: jbvlcjhlkaga FINE xIlI0l0IlIx: Do you ever feel subconsciously affected by anything (such as something you remember from years ago) *****: I guess so. xIlI0l0IlIx: In anyway how possible it came from one of those "What"s I mentioned earlier? *****: nope, not at all. xIlI0l0IlIx: Does this not even include religion? *****: yes. xIlI0l0IlIx: alright, so religion affects your personality, what you chose to do and your opinions? *****: not entirely. *****: I think that it help me to be a better person. *****: I think that I just like being who I am. I don't think I get stuff from other people, def. not my friends. I just want to have a purposeful (is that a word?) life. [/hide]
Bubsa
That's it, I've officially lost faith (get it?!) in this board. When a topic on borrowing has to be sub-divided into sections like religion, life decisions, morals and other bollocks... I can't take it. I might hiatus. A borrowing thread sounds good, don't get me wrong ville, but come on, you don't have to accommodate for all the eventual outcomes here. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
