What's up with the "u use premade u noob" snobism?

More and more I see replies to people's work, criticizing them for daring to use any pre-made tools, or (heaven forbid) actually tracing.

WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL GUYS??

Come on, if someone wants to use a pre-made tool, trace over, or whatever, let them FFS! I can understand the dislike of obvious plagiarism, or claiming to draw from scratch if using premades, but just because someone is using a pre-made tool does NOT make him a noob or a lamer.

According to some of you, anyone who uses anything except the dot brush would be a noob... Pre-mades are there for a reason, they were developed to help artists make works of art by USING them, not by looking at them and saying "yeah that's a premade but i'm 1337 so I'm gonna invent the wheel again and do everything from scratch". While it's true that many people use nothing but pre-mades and make boring or cliched images, it's just as possible for someone to use pre-mades and create an interesting, original, and most importantly well-done work of art.

If you want to draw from scratch, good for you. But stop this whole anti-premade campaign, it's just pathetic. It's like saying that every single FPS developer should make their own engine, and using an open-source engine would make you use pre-mades, and therefore your game sucks (*cough* Counterstrike *cough*).

Now give honest artists a break, OK?

Live free or die. First option is exhausted, so guess what remains?

Now there are different points for this whole thing.

- If you are just doing it to save time, yeah ok sure why not? But if you are doing it simply because you can't (like using tons of brush sets to make something that looks better than it realy is) than its usualy frowned apon.

- if the artist claims that he/she made it all by their self, yet actualy traced it/used tons of premade brushes ect. or a stock photo without saying so, than some may think they are better than what their skill shows.

So basicly, as long as you do tell the truth what you are doing than its good. And if you use just Pre-made tools, yes, you are a sort of a lamer. I remember an old brush set back in the day (a 3dsm brush set  like everyone and their dog had it) And it spawned a bunch of sigs that took LITERALY 5minutes (if that) to make a sig that seemed like it could have been made in a much better program, or have been much harder.

I like to think of it this way..

If there was a button on Photoshop that would randomize a nice sig background every time, would you use it?

Everyone's opinion is different, but I wouldn't use it. I'd rather make my own art, totally from scratch, totally by my self instead of using a pre-made resource. The result may not be as cool as the pre-made, but at least I'd have built a little bit more confidence and improved in skill by making a sig from scratch.

You're not going to get anywhere if you're work is just made by other people, and only slightly manipulated by you. Plus, your new art would look like everyone else who used the same pre-mades as you (though this doesn't seem to be such a big problem at tip.it )

Though I don't use pre-mades myself, I wouldn't go around flaming anyone who does. I don't think they should do it, but its their choice, and if its plagiarism, then its a risk they chose to take.

The only exceptions I use in my own work are default things, such as Adobe Photoshop brushes, filters, styles, etc.., 3ds max maps, scripts, plugins, etc.., and even some textures, as well as a couple other things. :)

Those brushes, they werent glass tubes and such by any chance?

They were like a bunch of glass shards and stuff mostly. There might have been some tubes lol.

And yes, it was madness lol.

I usually only get annoyed when people use premade stuff if it's like grunge brushes, or tech line brushes.

Since both of which are really easy to make yourself if you have even an ounce of talent. They may not be as good as the premade stuff, but, so? That's why you practice.

Too many people I think are wanting to become primo artists overnight, so they cut every corner they can, which I don't like.

That period was horrible. Almost every sig looked like the same person made it in a different colour. Nowadays, the premade brush scene isn't as frenzied, though it still gives art an overused look.

I don't actually have anything against those brushes themselves, mainly because I've never felt the need to use them in my art.

i agree with GSW on this one...they r there to be used so why not use them?

GSW didn't say that at all..

IMO : You can use premade tools but what gets people annoyed is the way they label them, eg. check out my pixel by pixel made sig, when they have used a premade tool.

Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. But...I never will be as 1337 as you. :(
