Overclocking

Featured Replies

Well, here is the outcome of CPU-Z. I think it's bad, because I've read somewhere that people had speeds of 2000 MHz, and i only have 1800 MHz. Now my question is, how far can I overclock it without extra cooling? Because I don't want to destroy my computer.

To be honest mate you're not gonna be able to push much out of a Sempron with stock cooling. Its an entry level CPU and wasn't ever designed to be overclocked.

If I get a new cooling system, what do you advise?

Semptrons just aren't designed to be overclocked. All of their BIOS functions are locked, and the processor's heat sink and fan are not built to handle the extra heat that overclocking generates.

did you build the computer yourself, or did you buy it prebuilt? newegg only carries one socket 754 add-on cooler, which is here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835106096

Why are you trying to O/C it anyway? You wont be able to squeeze any more juice out of it to make a difference anyway.

There are plenty more socket 754 coolers on Newegg. Look at the bottom of the sort tab and it will say socket 754,939, 775 ect. that all one cooler can support.

Although you seem to know very little on overclocking and semprons are not designed to be overclocked much (well the 754's aren't). I would suggest if you realy want a faster processor is to buy a new one instaid of buying better cooling. You can probaly get a 3200+ for socket 754 for like $45. Although it would be 2.2ghz so you would not see any huge performance gains.

I was thinking the same thing. The difference you would see after overclocking would be so minute it's really not worth the risk of possibly frying the CPU, and even if you don't overheat it, over clocking generally takes its toll on the over all lifetime of a CPU (even though they generally wont put up much fuss or die in any reasonable ammount of time)
