Eliminator10
Ok, so it all started yesterday, when my brother said that he downloaded a map pack with a virus for Dawn of War and his game wouldn't start. I placed in the xp disc and tried to fix it, but ended up wiping the hard drive. I got everything working, and then my brother decided to complain that his pointer went slightly off of the right side of the screen. So back to work I went, I did some research and tried messing with the monitor. One option which someone said was to check the button in the properties menu that said "extend my monitor onto this screen" I clicked it and the screen loaded and I had all my icons, and everything, but the wallpaper looked centered; it had a light blue border around it. It didn't seem like a big deal. I went into properties to change it back and it wouldn't pop up. I noticed that I could see that it was running in the taskbar, but it looked like it was floating off to an un-viewable area of the screen. So then I went into propeties to change it - same thing happened, I could only see it in my taskbar. I restarted my computer and previously I had my computer set to make it so a disc would boot up first, so I changed it back. I then loaded windows and it said that windows did not start properly. I did it again, same results. Restarted, and it loaded. Now I don't have any icons, and still, I won't get any windows to veiw. Please help! I want to rip out my hair now! EDIT: I did a system restore and now I don't even have a taskbar... :wall:
blade995
First off never re-install Windows if you have no clue what your doing. Especially for a virus which you could have removed easily with Ad-aware, AVG, or spy-bot. Go to the display proerties by right clicking on the desktop and click properties. Hope this helps. Thanks for trying, but the problem is that, whenever I try and do that, properties won't show up. Like, I would have done that when it first occured, but it the properties window only appears in the taskbar. Almost appears as if it is minimized, only it just doesn't appear. And yes, I did remove the virus, only it corrupted my brothers game and he wanted it fixed. I asked online and followed the directions which others gave. So now I've got this problem. mastermule52
to extend your windows desktop without actually seeing it you can use the following key sequence: right click on what desktop you have click properties wait a moment to ensure the entire thing loads - it will be off screen, so you won't know for sure, so give it a few seconds. [shift]+[tab] [left arrow] x 4 [tab] [tab] [2] [tab] x 3 [space] [tab] x 11 [space] wait a moment you should see on both monitors now. I see a big 1, and then the help and support shows up in the taskbar... :-s
