How many usb ports are you currently using?

Also are you using any usb "splitters" or hubs (ones with no external power supply)?

Sometimes if you use a lots/all of usb ports some will stop functioning as they run out of power. Using hubs which dont have there own power supply does the same, but more so.

I would also try pressing F5 or "Refresh" on the my computer window.

i'm thinking i will just reformat

Can I strongly advise against that? :P

Try this:

Open your My Computer window, unplug your mouse (temporarily,) and plug your device into that same port. What are the results?

Also, I know it's silly, but if your device has any "on" buttons ;-) make sure you turn them on. I've seen the best of computer whizzes stuck for hours because they forgot to turn the stupid thing on.

tried putting it in the mouses slot and it didn't work hmm i think my computer just has problems with removable drives maybe a driver is messed up but i will reformat anyway because my computer is in need of one anyway

Is it just your MP3 player / camera? Perhaps you need the software installed again for those devices?

I really would strongly advise against reformatting, considering most likely it won't do anything to help this problem.

I know you said your usb mouse works so I don't think its the USB slots in general. Anything else USB that works?

I would like to reiterate this point: if you don't already have the software you need to run the device, an fresh OS install won't do much for you ;-)

I assume they've worked before?

Any kind of changes at all you've done before you noticed them not working. Perhaps they do require software or drivers.
