Unless you are doing something completely safe (like Castle Wars or Duel Arena), I would not even think about risking 3rd Age Helm for the little but if defensive boost it gives you. However, if you don't care about which direction to go, I would recommend the Third Age Helmet. A +3 Strength and Prayer bonus aren't going to have a very noticeable effect, and if you aren't looking for max hits on their own, you don't need them.
