Think about composition (rule of thirds) and depth of field.

 

 

 

Have the flower 'subject matter' in the centre, close as you can still having it central, make the subject matter in focus, with a blurred background, diverting the viewer from the ground to the flower, It's then clear what the visual point is.

I agree with Thosethebrokes and Woopidoo2. Another good thing for close ups of flowers is to carry a water spray to spray water droplets onto the subject to add some interest on what, to be frank, is a bland, boring subject.
