June 24, 200719 yr It is because the Rune Crossbow gives +90 range which is 20+ points more than the Magic Shortbow's +69 range. Plus the crossbow is one handed so you can fight dragon's with the anti-dragonfire shield or even use a Zammorak book for more range bonus. June 24, 200719 yr well from what im hearing is that the speed is a great deal faster and only a pinch slower then a mage short bow. And if you have a zammy book / unholy book that you will can wield with your rune cross bow... Well that there is 98 ranged attack bonus compared to the 69 of a Mage shortbow...
