July 2, 200719 yr Heres the problem, I recently moved home and had non-cable broadband installed with a free router. It worked perfectly for the first couple of days with speed plenty fast enough (the speed is either 8 or 10mb). Within the last few days however the speed has taken a nose-dive - it takes nearly half a minute to load a simple web page compared to less than a second before, RS and WoW are nearly unplayable and downloads are simply impossible. Both computers on the network suffer from this and resetting the modem/router hasnt helped. The best bit is the only place I can get the line tested is on a premium rate number from virgin media . Can anyone help me?
July 2, 200719 yr Oh lord, you didn't get one of those combination packages from Virgin, did you? :uhh: This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
July 2, 200719 yr Author Oh lord, you didn't get one of those combination packages from Virgin, did you? :uhh: forgive me  my parents were lured by the free calls funnily enough i've been testing with that over a dew days, this was done past midnight, during peak times i've been getting as low as <30kb/s download.
July 2, 200719 yr Scan your comp from spyware, malware and other junk. Without proper protection it's dirty easy to get them. Tip.it guides give good tips which programs to get, how to use them and what to do. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=521606 http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=521610 http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=521604 Another possibilities are that if you are using a shared connection (i.e. with your neightbours) someone else is leeching it all with his downloads or if you got wlan, someone is using it without permission. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm

July 4, 200719 yr Try using a different browser, get DSL, restart you computer, scan it for viruses... Your name is "bet you fail", and you're starting a business with your mom? I'm not even going to touch that.....
July 4, 200719 yr Try using a different browser, get DSL, restart you computer, scan it for viruses... - browser wouldn't matter. - he has DSL/cable - .... - Not a problem a virus would cause. Anyways only way it looks like you could fix this is choose a different internet provider. I guess from my understanding your current one sucks.

July 5, 200719 yr Author well we have an update - I think it is my provider and yes it does suck, there's been some controversy over them in the media lately and *touch wood* it seems to be speeding up - WoW and RS are playable again and its generally usable again. Thanks everyone who posted though.
