Guest Beefman
Eh...My version of a Goblin. I just downloaded the trial of it and made this in like 15 minutes or something. I think it's alright. I was hoping there were others here that are good at 3D modeling and could comment on it or something. Rate it, whatever you want, I like it either way. :P I dunno' how to make eyes and whatnot yet, or textures or any real detail...at all, but I'm just now getting into it as I have the desire to go to school for animation/programming and someday work in the games industry. If anyone else works with 3D modeling, what programs do you reccomend? $500 to $800 is a lot of money for a program, and I want to make sure to get the right one. The only ones I really heard of is Zspheres, Wingz3D(don't like that..) and Rhinocerus by Microsoft...So.. Rate away?
Guest Beefman
23 views and zero comments? Didn't think it was THAT bad. :P

Guest Beefman
its actually good, just fix the ears, change the color of the bg, add eyes.... was just too lazy to post CC Yea, the ears were messed up, but I didn't know how to go back and fix them, as I don't know how to work like...Anything. The background is the same color as the model because I didn't know how to color just the model at the time, lol. I think I do now though. And eyes, I'm trying to learn, but when I get to a certain step in the tutorial, it won't let me go further, so I gave up on it...I'll just have to buy something that actually...oh, I dunno'...Works. Keiphus
Cinema4D, rather. (time) You used Zbrush's zspheres or you used a program called Zspheres? If you used Zbrush, I definitely recommend getting it. I have yet to use Zbrush2 but about 3 years ago I used to use Zbrush1.55 and I thought it was great. I'm looking to use the new one as soon as we get it at school or work, whichever comes first.
NACHO
ZBrush is regarded highly at cgtalk.com, and so is cinema 4d, Blender (somewhat), softimage|XSI, Lightwave, and of course maya and 3dsmax. thats not too bad of a job.
Keiphus
ZBrush is regarded highly at cgtalk.com, and so is cinema 4d, Blender (somewhat), softimage|XSI, Lightwave, and of course maya and 3dsmax. thats not too bad of a job. CGTalk is one of, if not the largest CG forums of its kind around... I'm sure you can find a majority of people who will all support different programs. All these programs are different and it's useful if you can sample them before you buy them. I've used Zbrush 1.55 and I must say I think that there are many features that were impressive, but hopefully Z2 had alot of improvements; as I have yet to use it I cannot really judge. Never used Maya or C4D so I can't say much about those. I've mainly used Lightwave 7.5 (have yet to use 8 ) and I don't really like it. NewTek (the developers of Lightwave) are a local company and I drive by their offices every now and then; it looks like a barn... I don't really like the progam, I think the workflow is hindered and it needs work. SoftimageXSI can be fairly buggy at times but I must say it's a great program. We use it at my studio and I love it. Everything is easily accessible and I can get to where I'm going and I know what I'm doing when I hit each button. The shortcuts are well placed and memorable. I enjoy the riggings it has to offer and I love the way it uses the three component methods for polygon modeling and such.. I just love it. It was hard to transition from Lightwave but now I can't go back. After using Softimage the past few months I have gotten very used to it and I don't think I can even remember hardly anything in Lightwave. I've used older versions of 3DSM, and I must say I wasn't impressed. But technology has changed greatly since those older versions so I'm sure the product is alot better now. The thing to remember though, is that software is only a tool. At times one tool can be better than another, but ultimately it's who's designing it that determines whether a project is a success or not. Don't pick a program if you don't understand the concept of 3D and all there is to it; expecting to be good right away.
NACHO
i have sampled maya, zbrush, 3dsmax, and cinema 4d. cinema 4d is the best in my opinion, but they all have about the same (insert word meaning that they can make things look nice here). the main part of 3d is the users skill. it doesn't matter what software you use, i just found the one i was most confortable with. tttia
z brush is a bit different though in its manipulating of current models. I saw the tutorials on the new version and it looked fantastic. But the reason you are getting few comments is that most people can't afford the programs, can't use them if they did, and have no real opionion on what they can't do :) We used to have a couple modelers around, but haven't seen them lately, and wistan is a pro animator but again, doesn't stop by much. If you post that over at cgtalk or even gfx forums in their wip sections you will probably get some good pointers and critiques.
wistan
not bad for 15 minutes in a new program (: if you want to work in the game industry... i'd strongly suggest maya... there are some companys that still use 3dmax ( i know that electronic arts is phasing it out in favor of maya)... max and maya cost about the same ($2000 i believe for maya... a bit more for max with character studio (which is a must for character animation)) and maya is stronger on the animation side i know a lot of modelers who still prefer max or lightwave for modeling but for animation.. maya wins hands down imo bottom line... use whatever you can... it's easier to teach someone how to use a program that it is to teach them how to animate nice job (: keep at it (hi ttia :) )
