Alch X + Remove alching notes (copy of my post on RSOF)

RSOF code: 24-25-13-49031373

There are a couple of problems with the current alching system:

- Is extremely repetitive, monotonous, and boring activity. Probably the ONLY activity in the game which you can and have to do for hours upon hours without even moving a single step.

- Favors bots, not genuine players. Bots can easily macro the same procedure of alching items, it is probably one of the easiest tasks to program a macro for, unlike tele macroing there are no Abyssal Services random to stop macros, and bots don't get tired, but real players do.

- Can cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) due to extreme repetitiveness.

- Is not realistic (how can you "alch" paper notes for gold)? I can understand shopkeepers paying real money for notes (it's like paying in cheque redeemable in bank), but doesn't make sense for a spell to "al*h" a piece of paper note into gold.

- No warning, can accidentaly alch even a phat!

Solution (must be implemented together):

1. Disable alching notes. Must carry real items to to able to alch them.

2. Allow "Alch X" for both high and low alchemy.

Where X can alch up to 10 items at once. The speed of Alch X should be comparable with the current alch speed, don't slow it down twice like you did with fletching, because having to go to bank every 28 items will already provide some cooloff period.

Advantages:

- Less monotonous, have to visit bank periodically

- Harder to macro

- Much less repetitive clicking, less chance of developing CTS

- Can chat while alches going on, no need to click and click and click 100% of time.

- Goes in line with other Alch X developments, like fletching/herblore, which did a good job at removing repetitive useless clicks

- More realistic, no more magic turning of paper notes into gold

- Chance to correct mistakes without accidentaly alching so

Answers to common complaints:

Complaint: This will slow me down!

Answer: Alch X should take as fast as normal alching does. Since you save about 1/2 secs between each spell (right now it takes about 1/2 secs to click on the next item to alch before the next alch starts), you'll have about 10 secs left at the end of inventory. This is enough to open bank window and get next batch of items.

Complaint: Now I have to be near a bank to alch stuff!

Answer: And so you should. It simply doesn't make any sense for you to be able to alch a bunch of paper notes. Do you really think the spell magically teleports the note to the bank, exchanges it for the item, alches the item, then teleports the gold into your pocket?

Complaint: This makes alching too simple! It takes away the challenge!

Answer: What do you mean by "challenge"? Having to click in the same spot 100,000 times is not a challenge RS should strive for. The only thing you'll "earn" from that challenge is the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Quests are a challenge. Beating a tough monster is a challenge. Clicking on the same spot a hundred thousand times is NOT a challenge, it is a nuisance and we should strive to remove those kinds of nuisances.

idea>

Of course on the RSOF I posted a bunch of rules and adresses to "stupid" responses like flaming, but tip.iters should really know better.

I'd still like to hear your opinion on whether you think this idea might be good or not. If you disagree, I'd be grateful to see some points which I didn't cover, rather than just saying "I don't like it".

I also realize many people might find it unpopular because it may slow down their particular method of training. My question is more global -- will this idea benefit the whole of RS in general, rather than some alchers in particular?

Live free or die. First option is exhausted, so guess what remains?

will this idea benefit the whole of RS in general, rather than some alchers in particular?

See this is the hard part to answer.. I'm sure some people will like it because they can take those few seconds they gain with alch x and turn it into a message to friends, or a quick check on their stocks or whatever they want to do with it. But others may like it the way we have it.

If it is changed there is the chance that there will be a massive uproar, not about the Alch x thing, but with the only real items can be alched thing. I see where you're coming from with the notes shouldn't equal the actual item when alched, and I agree with this, but I think it will cause an uproar, or it may not.

I think adding this could be a new experience for some players to actually do a little bit of work for their levels. And I do like it that it may stop some autoers..

Well, some things are good to do even if they are unpopular.

Like the pest control thing. Yes people had a "riot" and stuff, but everybody knew something HAD to be done about the old PC and way it impacted RS, and it's nice Jagex had courage to act despite unpopularity with those which were negatively affected.

Unfortunately making Alch X while retaining option of alching notes would really make it too easy. Right now the "getting tired from clicking" factor is the only thing stopping people from levelling magic way too quick. I don't think this is a GOOD way to stop it (in fact I think it's a horrible way to stop it), but if we go ahead and add alch X, we need SOME kind of stopper to compensate, and having to periodically go to the bank seems like a much better stopper than "my fingers are dead" one.

Live free or die. First option is exhausted, so guess what remains?

I don't see any point in this, for several reasons.

- Is extremely repetitive, monotonous, and boring activity. Probably the ONLY activity in the game which you can and have to do for hours upon hours without even moving a single step.

If its as boring as you say, why try and alch 10,000 items at a time? Break it up into incriments, alch at castle wars then play a game of castle wars when you get bored. Crafting, fletching, herbalore, thieving, and range can also be done for hours at a time without moving, making your point wrong and invalid.

- Favors bots, not genuine players. Bots can easily macro the same procedure of alching items, it is probably one of the easiest tasks to program a macro for, unlike tele macroing there are no Abyssal Services random to stop macros, and bots don't get tired, but real players do.

I can't argue here too much, but how many alcher bots are there? I doubt many macroers want to risk the money to level to 55, then risk the nats/items/gold in the case of them becoming banned.

- Can cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) due to extreme repetitiveness.

Look at point one.

- Is not realistic (how can you "alch" paper notes for gold)? I can understand shopkeepers paying real money for notes (it's like paying in cheque redeemable in bank), but doesn't make sense for a spell to "al*h" a piece of paper note into gold.

It is realistic because the note is the same value as the item its the note of. Notes are basically checks, where as the items are the cash.

- No warning, can accidentaly alch even a phat!

So you want a warning after each alch? I'm no rocket scientist, but that would make things a lot slower then they are now.

I don't like the idea of banking every 27 items... alching is fine the way it is.

A note is the equivalent of an item so it's actually the same as alching the item. Or do you think money irl is also stupid? Those little papers what you pay with.

I don't want to go back to the time of certs in RSC, I spent ages at Niles and Giles.

You don't have to do it if you don't want it... go do mage training, pest control or fight monsters if you want to get mage xp.

Alching is just fine how it is today. No need to correct anything. Make X & banking every 27 alch is .. Well .. CRAZY! I do like 10k ++ alche's everytime i alch, It would slow me seriousle down banking all these. =;

This would speed you up if you were standing right next to a bank booth.

I really dont know what kind of person would be alching with a rare/valuable right next to their alch pile. Kind of stupid move if you ask me.
