Lunar_Drifter
Hey Techies. This is my first trip into the Tech Boards so bare with me. Ever since I got my new DSL + Wireless connection, things have been a tad funky. When trying to watch videos online, be it Youtube, Filefront PKing vids, and what-have-you, it seems as if I can't watch a whole video without it stopping buffering and loading part way through. It stops at random times as well. Some videos I've been able to watch all the way through, while some don't make it past 10 seconds. This also happens to me while downloading things. I try to download something a bit large and it will stop part way through the download. Sometimes restarting the download will fix that and allow me to get the whole thing downloaded. Now I'm not exactly sure what the problem is now. Is it the service? The router? My computer? It shouldn't be my computer, because on my old connection I could download things just fine and dandy without interruptions. So it's probably something to do with the new stuff. I'm thinking that it may be a kink in the security features on my mom's computer, where the router wireless emitter are wired to. Is there a port closed that shouldn't be? Help is appreciated guys. :D ~Lunar Retired Tip.It Mod || Admin and Founder of Caesar 3 Mod Squad! All are welcome!
ClareJonsson
Have you tried resetting your router? Sometimes the ADSL connection needs to be re-trained and resetting the router causes this to happen. Also I have seen problems with certain routers causing slow down after being left on for a prolonged time. I suggest resetting it about once a week. The other thing to check is that your wireless connection has good signal strength. What's in between your PC and the router? Are people likely to be walking in the way of the direct signal path? If so, can you move the router somewhere else? [Assist-X]
Lunar_Drifter
The router is in my mom's room, so.. I can't really do too much with it. Can I reset it without having to turn on her computer and knowing her password to the log-in? Or would I need those? The signal strength is actually at "Very Good" or "Excellent" at most times, with a 54 Mbps transfer rate. The only thing in between the router and the receiver is a wall, really; her room is right next to mine. Retired Tip.It Mod || Admin and Founder of Caesar 3 Mod Squad! All are welcome! JoeDaStudd
Try updating the routers firmware and your wireless adapters firmware. Also make sure the line to the router goes through one of those filters. weezcake
You should be able to reset it and log back in (assuming that the router has your pw saved on it). The router menu should have some option for that. Google should be able to help.. And by the way, do all the phones at home have a DSL filter on them? ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
