NOTE: This is a FRIENDLY competition.

I would suggest we have a cross board competition between Runescape Community and Tip.

For those who have been around a while, this is not the first competition. But none of them really worked out. But I think there is a better way :)

Lets have artists from both boards submit up to 5 works, one of which should be new, but the rest could be new or from the past. They can post any style of works they like.

In the past the judging was the problem. We had a website built by some for the purpose, but it was unstable. And the judges were from the various communities, so hardly unbiased.

What I suggest instead is to have a post on each board announcing the competition. Those artists who wish to participate would post their works there. Then a panel of judges from each community would pick those that go on to the real competition. (probably wyrm, keiphus and pete at tip, but still open for discussion...rsc can pick their own of course).

At the deadline we would cut and past them all into a thread over at Conceptart.org, and CGtalk. These are well established art forums that would be uniased in looking at our work. (I would put a disclaimer that we are mainly hobbyists and beginners so they don't flame us to death since many of them are insanely talented). Then have them critique and rate the works and artists. While each work will be critiqued (we hope) the goal is for them to rate artists' overall work.

I have not selected a deadline yet. Both boards can work that out together.

Some base rules and guidelines:

No derivative works...don't make works from established artwork or ripped stuff. They REALLY do not tolerate that there.

No Terragen, Poser, Bryce works (except for bryce "abstracts," they would be acceptable). Sorry, but this is just the policy of cg talk since they feel they are too much of an "out of the box" solution.

No obscene stuff, nudity, (they do allow nudity, but would be better to avoid it as many of the people from these boards might take a look, and we don't want to risk the competition not being posted on rscommunity and tip.)

Photomanips are allowed, but post the original references. Please make sure you actually did a lot of work of course.

No sigs...please only larger works. They are going to think were noobs to start with, let's not provoke them :)

Each board's judging standards for who gets to participate should be quite high. We can't expect the people on cgtalk and concept art to look through hundreds of artists, so likely only about 6-10 max from each board will be selected. Please don't get worked up if you are not. It is just a reality of the contest.

Let me know if you all are up for it :) should be fun.

all done in photoshop

please note that these are not my final 5 entries, i will possibly be replacing them with time. im just posting these just incase something happens, such as i lose internet. id also like to show that i am supporting this idea. :)

edit: should we also post other works and let you guys select the top 5? or just the 5 we feel is best?

a. These will NOT be sigs. These will be larger works. Sorry, I should have stated.

b. You can post your fav 5, or post more and let them pick.

c. The standards will be quite high. I do not mean to offend anyone, but at the same time we can't expect people on boards who don't even know us to look through hundreds of artists. Only the best artists will get through. You are being judged on each piece, but more importantly on the totality of your work

I'm in... *opens up C4D and Photoshop*...

okay, ill upload some of my bigger works :)

here:

uploading them currently

Lol tttia you might aswell just be a team captain and pick 6-10 artists you think will win. I will probably be doing the same because somebody has to weed out the good artists from the lesser talented.

Also, we have a pixeller, will our pixeller face your pixeller in a special battle?

Pixel vs abstract is hardly judgable.

Yes it is

You judge it on how well the artist has used the style they've chosen not a direct comparison.

Superknight/Blademaster: Level 150; Hps: 132

Theoretical damage per round: 234

Highest recorded damage in one round: 104

But isn't this GFX battle style? GFX battles are usually restricting when it comes to styles, in a typical battle, pixel would not be allowed to go against 3d abstract or something because the average user would not be able to tell how well each style has been used.

Due to past tensions between the two sites, the staff need to discuss whether or not we're going to allow this. Sorry.
