yomom1919
I recently just found my ps2 when I wasn't looking for it, after loosing it for a year or so. So I was all happy and dandy, until I uhh :uhh:... dropped it down 5 stairs or so. I checked to see if it would turn on and it did, so I was happy and let it be. Around an hour later I hooked it all up, got it running, and loaded SOCOM: CA. It stopped on the game's loading screen, not the ps2 loading screen, [it didn't freeze, the loading wheel was still spinning, and so was the disc]. So I figured there was a problem with the disc [even though it's pretty much a brand new disc and has no scratches on it]. I tried a different game, and it couldn't get beyond the games loading screen either. I tried a few more games with the same result. Can anyone help me please, because this is the 2nd ps2 that I kinda dropped down the stairs.... :uhh:. I'm pretty sure the system is fine, I suspect a laser problem? das1330
By any chance does the PS2 make a faint clicking noise as the disk tries to load?
yomom1919
No :(, I wish it was only that. I had that problem before and the tech lady told me just to push the drive in till it pops. Thanks for your help anyway :).
das1330
if its not that, then the most likely cause is that the laser that reads the disk was knocked slightly out of alignment, so that it won't read the disk head on but rather at a slight angle, so that some information will not read correctly. It will probably need a repair.

das1330
well I personally have never tried this before, so I cannot vouch for its effectiveness, but if you were desperate you could try something like this: http://www.megagames.com/ps2/ps2_laser_ ... cope.shtml

I may practice first on my old broken ps2 and then try it on my half broken one :P. Thanks again.

Albosky
my advice would be for you to stop carrying ps2's on staircases. I like to fart silently but deadly in movie theatersArd Choille says (11:41 PM):I wouldn't dare tell you what to do m'dear

I'll just throw them up the stairs next time. Your avatar made me feel better. I got some major ps2 surgery to do tomorrow :(.
