run isnt in start on vista either

Pressing the Windows Key and R together will open the Run dialog box.

Technically there hasn't been a DOS prompt in Windows since 98 :P

It's just the standard command shell prompt.

Or should Collective's suggestion fail (unlikely) you can just use the Shift + Right Click within a working directory to 'open shell command here' :)

Open up notepade, and type the following:

command.com

Then go to save-as, and type (with the quotes):

"command.bat"

Save the file to your desktop or somewhere memorable, then close notepad. The find the file, and double-click on it. That should run the command line interface for you.

in vista click the vista (start) button and in the search box, type CMD and press enter. CMD is short for command. Typing Command and pressing enter will also work.

If you want the run command back on the start menu in Vista do the following:

1. Right click the Start (Vista) Button

2. Click Properties

3. Click the Start Menu tab

4. Click Customize.

5. scroll down until you find Run Command and tick it.
