New website help

I am working on making a website. Its not very complex, just basic stuff using html. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Like maybe look at it and make some suggestions, or put some code in, because i only know the basic html stuff i learned in high school. If anyone wants to help, post here. Thanks.

Main thing I'm tryin to figure out right now is the alignment on the members and requirements page. I have the table floated to the left and text floated right, but it messes up at the bottom of the table. So maybe put another table right under the first with black bg and no borders so you cant see it. Then all the text would be aligned the same. Would that be the best way?

I actually would consider css to be something that should be mandatory when developing a site. It makes everything much easier. Along with ssi, or php require for headers, nav bars, and footers.

don't use one of these bad free hosts, if you want a free one try to make it a respectable one.

 

if you don't want to do that, do this:

 

open notepad, and paste this to it exactly as it says here, with nothing else on the page.

save it as index.php, then upload it to your website.

 

let's see how that goes.

Get a better layout, it doesn't matter what language you use, as long as you know how to use it. Of course more things would be more comprehensive, and far easier with CSS, and many other languages.

 

 

 

Anyways, try to use bright colours, ads from companies are bright and give the message quick. Your site I assume is for a clan of some sort, your possibly advertising your clan on their to show other people how well your clan is. Thus, don't use black as background colour. I'd also suggest getting someone to create graphics for you, so they can make a better banner at least, and possibly buttons(not big ones), then code them properly.

 

 

 

I'd first move your site to another free hosting site, which doesn't have so many ads, or pop-ups.

 

 

 

I'd then take away the banner, get a new one, that lightens the place up a bit.

 

 

 

Your side menu doesn't need to have the borders, I'd also add a Top Menu and put in 'Contact Info' 'Legal things' 'Forums' anything that isn't its own page or doesn't fit in to the actual site persay.

 

 

 

Make sure everything is centered properly, make sure your using consistent sized letters.

 

 

 

I highly suggest you make the forums open in a new window.

 

 

 

The links should be put as a top menu.

 

 

 

Even though I'm a hypocrite, light colours are far better then dark colours:

Its not complete, and I do not plan on ever completing it. But it just shows you tons of examples you should at least use, or could benefit you. Trust me, this site is probably a 3/10 site compared to other html only sites. So don't take everything as being great.

 

 

 

If you must use dark colours, make sure your text isn't dark, and there's good contrast.

 

 

 

Anyways more things I recommend(I'm 14, in grade 9 so I don't know how good this):

  [*:2h0nrlga] Just keep it clean, and easy to read, without clutter, clutter trails users away
   
  [*:2h0nrlga] There's more, you learn as you go, but I strongly suggest learning more then one language, and learn how the internet works greatly

I don't have much personal experience with Tripod, or most other free web hosts, so I can't help you there, I've always preferred to just suck up and buy the domain/hosting.

 

 

 

But, adding onto what skatedog mentioned, if you can use css styles on your free host, I would really recommend using it. CSS (Cascading style sheets), are able to create, in the case of tables, ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅclassÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

well. I'm not really planning on making this a big extensive site. Just need to put the basic info on it. It's pretty much all how I want it now. I just need to find out how to align the text on the Members and Requirements pages. Anyone know how to do that with html? I have the table of links floated left.

no i did it and everything but it didnt change at all so i just set it back to center tags so i wouldn't get confused later.

wow. thanks a lot, it worked perfect. Can you plz do it for the members page too? then all the basics will be done and ill just have to add news and stuff from time to time.
