when i posted that i had to leave. but im back, here is the thing i just got another computer which is kinda equivalent to my other old computer and both have windows xp, and i put in a linksys router and it was working fine when i got it all set up. but occasionally it wont let me even open the runescape home page, http://runescape.com just shows the banner ads and says the 404 error, and saying i can go back, i tryed every way to fix it on my computer like changing the settings but i cant even go into costumer support and i wish this thread catches Jagex's eye

my intentions were to give u more detail because there wasnt an edit post option in this forum. on my other old computer if i go to http://www.runescape.com it has a page about oracle and sql and other things but on my new computer which i am on right now it still has the 404 error and things on how to make ur browser work with it, it was working fine and i thing a windows update changed something somehow

What kind of router? Does it have a firewall? Are any needed ports being blocked? Do you have a firewall?

...

its a linksys router, i have a mcafee firewall. i turned off my router firewall, and i have a windows firewall, and how do i check if ports are being blocked?

  • Author

this isnt a bump its an update on situation. i turned off and on firewall settings to every possible security setting for it and no change. i downloaded mozilla firefox and went to http://www.runescape.com, a message says connection was refused when attempting to contact

this is kind of an obvious question but have you tried restarting your computer? I had the same problem last week with runescape and it worked for me.

Try downloading the runescape client at ]http://www.runescape.com/aff/runescape/runescape[Caution: ExecutableFile] only download the client from there. Change the adress at the end to exe and it should download.

Hopefully you can get to that runescape page.

oh shoot i forgot to add something, on the adress you have to delete (caution - executable file) from the end also.

It's always possible you're posting from your old PC ;)

Anyways... you've tried using modem > PC directly. When you tried that, did you also have your firewalls disabled ?? There's definately something blocking the RS pages from your PC... and it's software of some description.

Thinking of it, have you checked you IE security settings ?? I've seen something like this previously where the RS websites had been added as disallowed sites by a brother...

Personally, i'd be doing some scans, as has already been suggested... especially seeing as how you mentioned "clients", referring to non-Jagex clients... who knows what was in them ??

I doubt it has to do with his IE settings because he said with firefox it didn't work either... I am lost. I honestly have no clue as to why it wouldn't be working.

Are you on a network? Are you an admin? Maybe an admin blocked it or something... I dunno
