Nuclear_man2
Ok, sorry I'm reposting this but I think the point i was trying to get across was over looked if its removed again i wont post it again. I'll try to clarifiy. Well i should post the orginal here for background information. So here it is. Recently, for members, bolts have become worth smithing, Bolts while not as fast as plates are more cost effient, they can even be rather profitible even if you buy the bars/ores, depending on exactly what kind you are making. They also seem better then arrows which require shafts and feathers where as bolts only require feathers. However I find this works best with high lvl metals (mith, addy, rune). Smithing anything lower is probably a waste of time, and probably unprofitible. I personally buy bars/ores and smith mith, addy, and rune bolts (mostly mith and rune). I think this should be included into the Smithing Guide. The guide currently mentions making arrows but not bolts. now to add on... I know its in the smithing guide... but i dont think enough attention was paid to it. So far i noticed the most common things to be smithed were: arrows (iron), knives (iron) and pl8 bodies (steel/mith/addy). However not many people smith bolts... which depending on what u smith (mith for instance) will get you very close if not over the price of the bars. (where as smithing iron knives will only get you about 80% of the way there). Perhaps the smithing guide isnt where this information should be perhaps a new smithing planner is in order. Might have too look into that too (or a merchanting calculator, but anyway back on topic (tell me what u think of those idea's though). Ah, perhaps it should be put under finacial considerations. Something like "smithing bolts and then selling them could get your money back" but perhaps the prices will change and that wont work anymore... well anyway thats my suggestion. pokemama
I recognise the value of your idea, and I did consider the financial implications of your previous post. However, I'd decided against it. Sorry I didn't explain, but it didn't appear to be your main point. I checked with a couple of folks, including a fellow who made several K of addy bolts a few weeks ago. He had a harrowing day trying to sell them. From all reports the price of bolts has fallen ever since crossbows were buffed (the day Mith dragons were released), and recovering money isn't really possible if you buy the bars. If you accumulate the ores yourself, then recovering cash isn't an issue and yeah the selling value (per bar used) is pretty good. But ... it's rather tenuous for a major guide when the prices could fall even lower? It's been suggested before that some calculators include a "materials cost" and "sale price" options (input by the user), so that profit or loss could be determined. I for one would LOVE that, it would be a great tool. However this requires some serious coding. The next best place for this tip would be in a money-making guide. There is at least one in the AOW and a few more in the Player Made Guides, so perhaps you could post there and in the AOW guide discussion topic(s) if bolts are not addressed already. Thanks so much for wanting to share this tip with other users. And please PM me if I close a topic without addressing your concern - this was a misunderstanding. it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*. Nuclear_man2
Ah ok, well prices are dropping pretty quickly for addy, runes kinda low as well (not as much buyers as there used to be, dragon (E) bolts are good price but only a small minority can actully make them, mith bolts are still pretty good priced. The prices i see are about Mith bolt: 140-150 ea addy bolt: 290-320 ea Rune: 1.4-1.5 ea (dont see much of it) Dragon (E): 7.5-8k ea So I see your point as well... so i shall post elsewhere I have made an excel version of a profit calculator, however I dont have the knowledge to make one that is web based, else I would make one. And next time i will PM.
