Verminox
Is it possible to play the old Windows 95 games on XP, and if so how? Prefer it if i didn't have to download anything but if i do then it shouldn't be a problem.
das1330
for almost all games, running on windows xp will not be a problem at all. Just put the CD in and play, like any other game. If that does not work, try right clicking on the icon, selecting "properties" then "compatibility" then run in compatibility mode for windows 95. Futurama
^^ Indeed, though some games require an app to slow down your processor otherwise they run too fast! That might be pre-95 game sthough.
adam_ross0
I've never had any problems..just install as usual. You might need to install something though.
____
And then there are some games - like the older, original - unhashed - version of C&C which will out-right refuse to install on XP in the first place when that happens it's usually a matter of seeking an XP version if it even exists. ClareJonsson
for almost all games, running on windows xp will not be a problem at all. Just put the CD in and play, like any other game. If that does not work, try right clicking on the icon, selecting "properties" then "compatibility" then run in compatibility mode for windows 95. Actually that's quite wrong, I have found that a LOT of games intended for 95 will not run on XP. There are a lot of issues mainly to do with how games address hardware such as audio, video and joysticks. Remember all those IRQ and Base IO settings for audio? Windows 95 (and 98) was still based on DOS (DOS 7 I think) And as such 99% of those games were little more than DOS based games. DirectX was in it's infancy in those days and not many companies used it as a game written naively for DOS was a lot faster. Take a look at Quake etc. You might have better luck using something like DosBox or Virtual PC. Addition: Now if your game doesn't run or it has problems like the sound is choppy etc. Try looking for updates. A lot of people are writing their own game engines that sometimes update the game. Take Doom or Quake I for instance, there are now Win32 versions of these games written by 3rd parties that even improve on the graphics by using your 3D hardware. I think there's a Win32 LBA! Doomster
The most that is possible for a Win95 game with no patch, is to try running the installer in compatibility mode, then the game in compatibility mode. For C&C 95, a patch is also required Rediscover this classic here with an official free download http://www.commandandconquer.com/intel/ ... 1#NewsMain
