monkey madness defense experience

It looks like I can do Monkey Madness without getting defense experience if I just don't talk to Daero at the end of the quest.

If I choose to go this route, what happens if at some point in the future, I accidentally click on Daero? I'm guessing that a dialog would start and I would still have the option to exit the conversation before receiving the experience, right?

Yes you would, you could just walk away in the middle of the conversation. That way you wouldnt get the reward

I think you have to option of not getting defence xp, something like attack and hp or strength and hp. Look it up.

I have looked it up.

My understanding is that if I talk to Daero after killing the demon, I get either some defense experience or a lot of defense experience (as well as experience in other stats). I was simply looking for confirmation that if I accidentally engage Daero in a conversation after the quest, I could walk away / exit the convo without getting the experience. I guessed that I could, but just wanted to check.

Yes you can just walk away it's actually a pretty long conversation about the 10th squad elite you have to take before you actually get the exp and when you reach the part of getting the exp you'll have to choose between def and hp or str and att and even than you can still walk away with no exp.
