ZoneAlarm Firewall

Featured Replies

Most of you know the situation with the computer in my room...old, outdated..yet, I've still got it working fine.

Here are the specs:

433 mhz Intel Celeron Processor

160 MB RAM

4 GB HD Space (crappy, I know. Upgrade, I'm not gonna waste my time doing for this computer)

8MB Video Card

Windows 98 SE

Yes, yes...very old computer. I should buy a new one. I won't though..I'm experimenting with Linux to bring this back to life. But anyhoo...back on topic.

Honestly, I'm tired of Spyware/Viruses on this old machine. It's outdated. And because of the lack of Support for this, I'm very, VERY vulnerable to anything that wants to walk on into my computer....as if Windows wasn't vulnerable enough already. I have Spybot - Search and Destroy to control Spyware, and I have AVG 7.5 Antivirus...well, you can figure out what it does. I'm really tired of worrying about it. So I want a Firewall for this to help control it all.

With my system requirements, could I possibly run ZoneAlarm Firewall? I hear it is a very secure, very good Firewall.

if you going to make it linux then you wont need it really. there arent hardly any viruses out there or any thing that could hurt linux. people dont waste their time because they are way way more windows users. if your having that much problem just reformat and install linux. thats what we use at school in the computer lab and our teacher who knows how to hack, make viruses i beleve, he says that you can visit any site really and not even have to worry about it because there arent any viruses. hes made security programs for the top companies and businesses in our town and surrounding area so he knows what hes talking about.

I guess I said that wrong.

I'm using the Live CDs. I still plan to use Windows until I'm comfortable with the idea of installing Linux on this computer. I'm not the slightest bit worried about Linux Viruses.

If your PC is behind a router then I wouldn't bother with a firewall.

If your not behind a router then it may be worth it however it will slow your performance down.

ZoneAlarm is a solid firewall which is more then good enough for most users.

I believe they have discontinued support for windows 98 and me. You could try agnitum outpost free firewall, that still supports windows 98.

adam_ross0, ZoneAlarm FireWall will work extremely well on your current system. All you need to do is to find either a good Free Edition download, or a good 3.x, 4.x, or later Pro Version that you can buy.

Just one warning I realize I should note... Leave MailSafe turned off. It will conflict with your antivirus, big time. Other than that, you'll be fine, seeing as ZoneAlarm is really easy to manage. :)
