Day Of Silence

Featured Replies

It's about making an issue about discrimination against sexual preference, to bring it to the public's attention, because there is discrimination, and it needs to be challenged.

Astralinre, in Ancient Greek times, dreaming was thought to be 'abnormal', so no one admitted to dreaming. Much like people find it difficult to admitting to being homosexual now.

For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns.

The time when the living and the dead exist as one.

I've had so many people question me about what the Day of Silence actually does. What is the point of being silent?

It's not JUST about being gay (LGBT). It's about anyone who has been silenced - any minority groups - but particularly LGBT groups have pushed for this Day of Silence. This act of silencing hasn't always been intentional, and it hasn't always been malicious. It simply occurs because people do not feel comfortable being who they are. They struggle to communicate, but feel silent anyway.

So by participating in the Day of Silence, whether you are LGBT, minority, or not, you are having a valuable learning experience. You are finding out what it's like to actually be silenced and try to communicate when you have to in other ways - by writing things down in class, body language. How can you make yourself heard? It's not easy.

But when a large group of people are silent together, suddenly the silence is deafening. It makes a statement, it is heard. The Day of Silence is about being open to what other people have to say - and then saying to the world what you have to say. Because behind all of our facades, we are ALWAYS struggling to be ourselves. I think that if everyone in society were more open, it would be a much better place.

For the record, my local Amnesty International and Gay-Straight Alliance organized the Day of Silence for my school last year, and will be holding it again this year. Almost a fifth of the students in our school participated, in the first year!

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

Porn addict and adultery are sexually immoral i guess but being gay most certainly is not! You then go on to blab about how christ loves you yadda yadda yadda and it all falls into place. You are brainwashed by fools that cannot accept how people are.

Being gay IS NOT abnormal and they shouldnt need councilling any more than your typical straight person

Homosexual intercourse cannot lead to the procreation of the species, making it an abnormal sexual preference. It's common sense, not bible-humping.

So what you and Astralinre are trying to say, is that the ultimate purpose of a human's life is to procreate. Thanks for voicing your opinion. As far as I know most people in the world use condoms while having sex which doesn't lead into procreation and I believe the pope himself said condoms are against God's will (if you're a christian that is)

You can't decide to be gay, if you thought so, you're wrong. Most people can not "choose" their sexual orientation, though for some unknown reason women are generally far more bisexual than men. If you are gay, you were most likely born like that. How is it wrong that you're acting like your brains tell you to do?

I must stress it again: It's hard, if not impossible to "choose" your sexuality. It's written deep in your mind and DNA, you can't control it. Restricting these people's right is ignorant, just like a few decades ago they were debating "should black people have equal rights in America". Now everybody knows that's a stupid and immature subject and it's only natural that everybody has same rights regardless of their skin color (which, too, you can not choose when you are born)

Astralinre: You seem to forget the fact that nobody with a half of a brain will "change" their sexual preferences all of a sudden because somebody told them something false about how God dislikes them and how they're unnatural. By stating that you'll just get them farther away from church. So instead of trying to cope with the unchangeable fact that there will be always a 5-10% minority in the world who will have gay sexual preference, you're trying to change them? Just get over it: You can't do it.

You can be a vegetarian and no matter how much you tell me it's wrong or against "God's plan" to eat meat, I'll eat as much of it as I want to, thanks. You don't have any right to judge anybody based on their preferences. I didn't choose to like beef, when I'm hungry, it's what I think of. It's my instict, I can't control it.

I have a few gay friends both male and female. I don't see anything "wrong" about them. I can go to movies with them. I can go to an amusement park with them. I can eat in a restaurant with them. So what's the big deal? I couldn't care less what they do in their bedroom, I care about it just as much as they care about what toothbrush I use. I don't see how God, if he exists, would doom them to hell even after all the good they did in life, just because of their sexual preference. That's a laugh, like the church is, if that's it's stance on this issue.

Sorry, I respect your opinion but that's just the stupidest thing I've ever seen posted on this boards (and that's saying a lot ;))

I supose that you understand by normal, everything that the Nature/God/Superbeing wanted the world to be like.

As christians say, their God created the world, plants, animals and lastly humans. And God 'programmed' everything in the world to act in a determinated way.Good.But he also gave us freedom of will, and so we could do whatever we wanted and therefore became sinners in ocasions.(By this I mean that homosexuality might be reprobable in the human specie, because we act as we want and God can't do anything to avoid it.) However, THAT only applies to humans.Everything else's behaviour is 'written' by God.

And now, here goes my point, did you know that even animals have homosexual intercouse? It's fairly normal in lots of mammals (like dolphins, which is the only specie beside humans who also practices sex just for fun, and some monkeys) and a few lizzards. So if God made everything, explain me why do animals have homosexual relations?

Please.

And if God didn't seem to think that homosexuality was bad for animals, why would he think that it's bad for us?

Reply please, I'm eager to know the answers to my questions.

Thanks =)

P.S:Thank God I'm atheist xD

You people are taking what I said out of context.

The driving force behind all living things on earth, from the smallest prokaryote to the largest mammal, is and always will be to pass their genes to the next generation. This can only be done through heterosexual mating. Creatures displaying homosexual tendancies fail to pass on their DNA and their genes are taken out of the gene pool once they die. If they do not follow the driving force that controls the way 99.9% of all creatures on this planet function they are indeed, abnormal. It's that simple.

I never once brought up God, human sexuality or why creatures display homosexual tendancies.

I know the price. I pay it gladly.

Face it medieval man people don't just have sex to make babies any more. You wouldn't call people who have casual sex abnormal. Also if you are born gay then how can it be abnormal. Normality is set by the people born like you.

Also I wanna ask if god only did it to make babies why make it pleasureable? Surley if your sole aim is to have a child from it then it doesn't need to be and shouldn't because it just intises(sp?) people to do it more often?

Because making babies is a beautiful thing. When you're 40 weeks down the line, and you marvel at what you have created and brought into this world, it's supposed to be the happiest moment of your life; a blessing. The pleasure is like a taster of things to come.

I won't be taking part - silence isn't my thing. however, i support the idea. imo, as long as gays keep their bedroom activities to themselves, i'll treat them like any other person. Infact, i know a fair few of them and they're some of the coolest people i know :)

A few million people having casual sex for a few centuries as opposed to countless trillions of lifeforms passing on their genes for the past four billion years. Quite the revolution.

The reason sex feels good is an evolutionary tactic. If we indulge in intercourse frequently we increase the chance our genes will be passed on.

I know the price. I pay it gladly.

I don't know if I will, but many of my friends are...I just don't see how staying silent could be a way of protesting it...
