November 6, 200718 yr I would like to upgrade my computer and/or internet speed. My computer seems a bit slow, and Runescape lags for me. I would like to speed up my computer, internet, and hopefully make Runescape run faster/better. This is my current equipment and situation- Computer- Dell Dimension 3000, completely stock. Internet- I use a wireless internet from the building next door. Yes, I do pay for it. I use a linksys router and a netgear internet card. My typical internet speed is between 5.5 and 18 mbps. I have no idea what that means, or if it is fast or slow compared to other wireless signals. My java is up to date, and I use the downloaded Runescape client to play RS. For the most part all I do on this computer is play RS, check email, and browse the forums. My question is; how should I go about speeding up my computer, internet, and Runescape? Is there anything I should buy to make my computer faster? And for my internet? Replacing my wireless connection with a land line would not be very easy, and probably will not happen. I have no clue when it comes to computers and this sort of thing, so any help would be much appreciated. :P I am not a skiller, but i do some skills.
November 6, 200718 yr Well the number one thing I would do is to scan for viruses and spyware, that sort of thing. Download Ad aware se personal, spybot search and destroy, and avast! antivirus and scan your computer with all of them. The links to them can be found in the sticky on the top of this forum. Obviously delete anything they come up with. As far as hardware upgrades, your computer should run runescape and internet related things just fine. The same with your internet. That download speed is PLENTY fast. If all else fails, you can try wiping your hard drive, but if I were you I would go for the antiviruses first.
November 6, 200718 yr Is that your internet speed or your wireless speed? There is a big difference. Mind posting your computer specs and just not the model number? Has it always been running slowly or just recently? If it's only been recently you do not need to upgrade because it would be a software problem. Scan for viruses and spyware.
November 6, 200718 yr To get your computer specs go to control panel and click on performance and maintenance and take a screenshot of that screen where you see your processor type and your amount of RAM

That is my wireless speed. Here are the computer specs. I don't think it has always been running slowly, but it is not recent. Probably for a year and a half to two years. I downloaded those programs (already had two of them) and ran the scans twice. Some things came up, mostly cookies. No effect though. I am not a skiller, but i do some skills.
November 6, 200718 yr Have you downloaded/installed any new software lately? Besides the antivirus/spyware programs?
November 8, 200718 yr Author I have done those things, and there is no difference. I still get pretty constant lag. any suggestions? I am not a skiller, but i do some skills.
November 8, 200718 yr A stick of RAM may help speed the computer up nicely. I have a 2.8ghz PC with 1.2gb of RAM and it runs really well. Also, go through and uninstall programs you don't need and defrag your hard drive. (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter). By removing clutter and unneeded junk from your hard drive, this will speed your computer a little bit because it will read quicker. [Tip.It Mod][Retired][Add your Steam name here!]
