building a new gaming computer not to expensive

ok i am getting really annoyed at my computer as i have half life1/2 counter strike and battlefield 1942 etc and am wanting to play them normally or online. Firstly my half life wont work on this comp for some reason and also other games life battlefield lag even on low quality.

my comp isnt that bad quite good actually but i dont really think its a gaming computer as such. and so i am wanting to build my own with the help of a friend maby but was wondering on what to put in it. I am not wanting to spend to much but am willing to get something that will not be outdated tomorow like most things. I already have a monitor and mouse & keyboard.

I can post a msinfo32 if you want to see were my current computer is at and then if i should build another.

thanks

soz no edit button but i forgot to mention i would still need this computer to use other things like an ordinary computer and for school like macromedia dreamweaver/flash and those things and all other stuff.

So basically my computer now but for even better gaming so that i can play games online as good as counter striker source with out lag.

I also have an OS for it windows xp already.

Why not upgrade what you already have? Chances are all you would need are a better video card and some RAM.

Post the specs you have now, and lets see what you can do with it...

Okay. For the love of god, don't throw that system away...

Thinks you could look into improving: RAM (1GB (or more if you feel like spending money)), cpu (if you have too much money, because this one should run fine. If you do have a lot of money to spend, you could try getting 3.2 or 3.4Ghz), graphics card (if you want to play games, this and the ram is most likely what you want to be spending stuff on).

That pc is definitely not ready to be thrown in a bin yet.

Also, we can't see what kind of graphics card you use. Try getting the AIDA32 (use google) or the thingy mentioned in the FAQ (I forget its name).

Judging from the amount of physical memory you're using, posting a hijackthis log may also be an idea. :)

Um... if you getting a new computer I will take that one off your hands for you lmfao...

That is a plenty good system, infact very close to what I have, and I can run HL2 and such just fine. There is no real need for a new system... that one should last you untill the next generation of gaming..

What video card do you have? Maybe that is your problem... or your connection?

I don't know, but I sure as well wouldn't toss that computer, because i you want something better then that you will prolly end up throwing out $1200 for everything brand spanking new, top of the line....

I suppose you could pick up another 512 stick, and if you really feel the ned, buy a new processor... other then that, you are crazy

Oh, and to find your video card just do start > run > dxdiag > display tab > chip type

oh dear, you have a celeron, unless you want to overclock it i'd suggest getting a new motherboard and processor, usually processors dont hinder games performance but the celeron is a typical example of a processor that does lower games performance opposed to an Athlon or Pentium

You have integrated graphics. That means you are killed for gaming. Believe me, I know. I can't even run a circa-2003 game at lowest possible quality :?

Get a video card that is independent and doesn't suck up system resources. Everyone screams 'OMG!!111111111 NVIDiUH 6600 GT" so I guess the best thing would be to get the NVidia 6600 GT and stick it in the AGP slot (if you have one, and you should).

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 206&depa=0

Hope that helps :). Or you can opt for a processor-mobo combo AND a new vid card, plus a new vid card, but that would set you back like $500 if you got decent parts, at which point buying a new computer is more economical.

so am i able to just swap a few parts now or is it better easier to get a new computer?

how much would a new computer cost me with the parts sugested and other parts so that i dont go backwards from my computer?

if i was just changing this computer would i have to take out the whole mother board? as it sounds like a fairly decent job so might have it made or put in?

Definitly get a new video card, on board cards are generally poo (not all of them though, as studies have been done on some cards getting veryhigh bench marks)

If you really want, get another stick of 512 DDR RAM, thought I only have 512 and it runs fine.

Celeron processors are budget processors, not suggested for gaming, but I wouldn't necessarily junk yours. First off, get the new card for sure (I would spend anywheres from 150 to 300 on a new card for that computer) If you get another stick of RAM, put that in as well and try gaming for a while... if you are still as stuborn as a mule get the new processor (the price range I am not sure, but you can easilly find plenty of places to buy from in the sticky about 'good places to buy from')

It seems there is a problem. Your motherboard does not seem to have an AGP slot. Check in AIDA32 (somewhere in ports / slots) if this is correct, but judging from the GigaByte page you don't have one.

Your motherboard also does not support PCI-E, which means that getting a new graphics card is near impossible.

Could you ask your friend what he meant when he said slimline? I think he might be right that this computer will be hard to upgrade at all :(. (Memory and cpu should still be possible, but without a better graphics card it's unlikely your games will perform any better)

When choosing a hard drive:

1. What's the difference between ATA-33 and SATA? Is there actually any performance difference? Or is it just a different type of mount, and works the same as long as the motherboard supports it?

2. In what way does more cache size (16MB as opposed to 8MB) would affect HDD performance? I'm not too familiar at how HDD operates in terms of input / output to RAM and other devices.

Live free or die. First option is exhausted, so guess what remains?

can any1 write a list for me on what to get in another computer as far as motherboard, audio, visual etc so that i can then go and have a look at how much itll cost all up

I recommend the ATI x700 pro series video card. ATI is runnng a good deal right now $219 armeican dollars for it. Probally the best out there for the money, unless you wanna spend $600 on the ATI x850 graphics card (the best on the market). The clockspeed of the x700 is outstanding for the money. By the way you need a motherboard that supports pci express. I reccomend cheacking out the intel motherboards.[/url]
