November 18, 200718 yr Ok, so I'm surfing happily and then about 5 times in the space of 15 minutes this pops up. Now the IP on there is not that vastly different from mine on the uni network (I'm pretty sure this is from within college) - should I be worried here? I've noted it down obviously and am tempted to go and speak to the IT guy.
November 18, 200718 yr You're lucky you had a firewall. It was probally just some prankster, but it might've been worse. Once the guy knows he can't get in once, there's a good chance he won't waste time trying to again. You never know tho.. :anxious: Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <3
November 18, 200718 yr I can't say I've seen anything like it. I'm not sure why someone (or something) would need or want to access your computer. You should probably talk to the IT guy if you can, better safe than sorry.
November 18, 200718 yr Love your avatar You're right. I would definetly go and see the IT guy, he could give you some tips on what to do to keep your computer safe and what you should do if it happens again. Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <3
November 18, 200718 yr I'd go talk to the IT guy. And by no means until then should you turn off your firewall.
November 18, 200718 yr It's probably just a computer scanning IPs trying to find an unpatched computer to exploit, it happens all of the time and is usually nothing to worry about if you keep your Windows patched, have a virus scanner and a firewall.
November 19, 200718 yr It's an Oxford IP address (http://whois.domaintools.com/163.1.99.91) so it's most likely just a network appliance checking for any vulnerable machines or some other application that has to do with the university network.
