Doom 3

I've always have been a fan of the Doom series, and I ever since I heard Doom 3 was being made, I wanted it. Unfortunetly, my computer couldn't even run it on the lowest settings, so I had to wait for the Xbox version. Well a couple of days ago I picked it up(however couldn't play it due to work). Finally I got to play it a day ago, and wow....

Has anyone else played Doom 3 yet? If you have not, I suggest you do(unless you can't stomach mass ammounts of blood, and get scared easily).

I've played through the game and its expansion, and I'm not too impressed. Sure, the graphics are nice, but the game is just plain boring. Killing things with the Chainsaw is fun, but the games futile attempts to scare the player are kinda lame. Definitely worth playing through at least once though :)

Just what I thought, Pryo. It does look good, and there are some nice touches--such as the little robots that run around: they have the wires moving and stuff. That doesn't add up to a good game, though... which is a shame.

I'm not a huge fan of "shocking" games, as I can "shock" myself by thinking about mass murder when I least expect it! No, but seriously: I don't find it fun, just like I don't find Quentin Tarantino films like "from dusk till dawn" or "reservoir dogs" fun--though I do recognise the quality of the latter.

For one thing, I didn't find the weapons on Doom3 all that satisfying. They felt good until you actually used them on a monster, at which point they felt unrealistic--insofar as plasma guns can "feel unrealistic".

The monsters, however, are starting to grow on me. At first, I didn't like the new interpretations of the monsters, as I thought the imps looked like bog standard "generic monster number 16"s and the cacodemons like flying fish. What's more, they got rid of the hell knight's "image" which I thought a shame. I did rather feel that they'd replaced a lot of individualist monsters (again, insofar as an identical sprite can be an individual) with some "charred, melted flesh" and called it a monster.

Now, though, having played bits of it again, it looks a lot better than it did. I don't know why... It does, though.
