looking for a professional banner tutorial (GIMP)

I'm sorry that this isn't really related to RuneScape, but I'm considering making some professional-looking banners for another site. I've seen some Photoshop tutorials, but unfortunately, I don't have Photoshop, so I'm considering using GIMP, which is free. If anyone has any good GIMP tutorials, I would greatly appreciate them.
