Weird... Hard Drive Problems.

So I wake up the other morning, my hard drive sounds like it's trying to load something but it keeps clicking and trying again. Eventually the lovely blue screen with white text resembling DOS comes up talking about some weird stuff I don't understand. One line said: "Preparing to dump system memory" and before that was something about Memory Failure or something, don't remember. But all I did was turn off my computer.

Later on, thinking that this may be a virus or some kind of spyware causing it, I ran thorough scans with AVG and Ad-Aware. Nothing was found. And it continued to do it.

Just now, I turned off my computer, unplugged the power cable, opened her up, and unplugged my hard drives (I have two, one is storage and back up and whatnot, it was the main hard drive giving me issues), and then waited a moment and replugged them back in. I boot up my computer and haha! It's not doing it anymore. I'm going to wait for an hour or so, because it would do that within that sort of time period. But I think I fixed the issue.

Any ideas on why this would be happening? The hard drive is making sounds like it's trying to load but not being able to (Actually, hitting the side of my computer was working some of the time to make it work), or what exactly caused this issue, because now it's fine it seems?

The question is for any help anyone can provide if this continues even after I believe I've fixed this issue.

1) Hitting your computer to make noises go away is NEVER a good idea. Sudden impacts to computer hardware breaks thing.

2) Next time you get a blue screen, write down the error code. It gives them for a reason. We can't help with much without knowing the error code.

3) Clicking noises from hard drives generally means the drive is damaged in some way. It could be fine, but it's fair warning that it could be on it's last leg.

If you're hearing any sort of scraping, bad reading sounds or even experiencing your computer shaking then back up your data while you can. They're all early signs of a failing hard drive. The scraping/loading one was a problem I had myself with a Seagate drive, the discs were actually hitting the read heads, but luckily hard drives tend to have quite long warranties.

Yes, and it would suck a lot if the hard drive was dying already, I just bought it a few months ago. But it seems to be perfectly fine now, it's not doing the sounds nor the errors anymore, and I left it alone for a couple hours. Thanks for the tips. And I know hitting it doesn't help, I wasn't smacking it really hard though, more like tapping it on the side slightly, not too hard.
