I need suggestions on what router I should buy for my desktop computer, I have windows vista premium operating system, roadrunner broadband internet provider, and I dont care if it is wireless or not, I just want something that offers durability, keep stable connection, wont decrease my speed on internet, and offers a fairly good security while surfing the net.

Any other information that you need me to provide to help choose what router would be best for me, just let me know in this thread and I will try my best to tell you. Also I wonder would it be wise to upgrade my RAM from 1 gb to higher? and also replace graphics card with better one? (right now i have a intel graphics media accelerator 950)

 

 

 

I use this computer mostly for surfing the web, playing runescape , playing music. watching vids/movies, but I might want to start playing better graphic games such as WoW or something else that requires high graphic card.

1gb of RAM with vista will get you by, but 2gb is usually recommended to be able to take full advantage of all it's "features".

 

 

 

As for the router, I swear by the Linksys WRT54 series. I've had a WRT54GS (v3, v4 and up have different firmware and suck) for years now and have had absolutely no problems with it running 2 wired machines, a wired xbox and 4 wireless machines. They swapped over the G and GS to a crap firmware so I'd recommend buying the GL (which uses the better firmware) if you go this route.

Don't get a Belkin router, mine is currently sitting in a dark cupboard under my stairs. ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã80 down the drain. :D

Well, I wouldn't get a Westell, as we got ours for free and it's a pain. It won't automatically assign IP's to machines, so I had to go and manually enter different IP's for my laptop, a Wii, and two DS's. It has one more machine on it, but that's hardwired and didn't seem to need messing with.

I know that, but it's definitely not the first choice of most, especially not those who are not as technologically inclined. It took me forever to figure everything out, because once the IP was manually input, everything else suddenly had to be as well. Gateway, Subnet Mask, DNS, etc. I learned a lot, but it really was a pain in the rear.
