indy500fan
I honestly can't tell much of a difference between HD-DVD and Blu-ray compared to a normal dvd on a decent TV It seems that the ps3 will have a *slight* sales boost. It really depends on the distance you are away from the TV and the size. Also if you have everything set up correctly. Some people will buy an HDTV, sign up for HD cable channels, and then hook up the box to the TV with A/V cables, making the entire thing useless to have in HD. If everything is right though there is a noticeable difference between SD and HD.

There are a lot of movie watchers who can't afford to upgrade to HD. This could involve buying a TV costing well over $1000 along with a PS3/Blu-ray player. And I know movie sales are huge, but I have probably only purchased 5 movies in the last 5 years. I'll just rent it if I really want to see it. Swordhand20
Even if PS3 sales go up... It doesn't necessarily mean Sony is 'benefiting'. They probably had to pay a crapload of money to those studios in 'production support fees' and other payments to convince them of a large move like this. Probably talking about billions here even if it's not official news. even if you're main incentive for buying a ps3 is the blu ray player, you will be suckered into buying games simply because it can play games ps3 is an entertainment center with music, movies, chats, internet but it is a gaming system before any of those. if they have a ps3, they will surely buy games for it even if it wasn't the reason why they bought the ps3 That really depends on who's buying it... when the PS2 first came out and dvd's were pretty new my grandad bought a PS2 to play dvds on; and I can tell you he never bought any games for it. He's not bad at Wii games though.
