June 13, 200818 yr I suggest "dariks boot and nuke" - http://dban.sourceforge.net/ , it does a much more "deeper" (excuse me, too bored to come up with a better word) than windows xp/vista cd formatting. It took me about 7h. If you use this instead of xp/vista cd (of course you can format with one of those cd's if you want to), it will be much harder for someone to retrive data from your session, than if you do it with a xp/vista cd. Instructions for dban is on the page i linked. Remember to save any data you want to keep on a cd/usb memory/send to another computer... etc before you format. June 13, 200818 yr Author How do you do it the normal way? I dont wanna bother downloading that and buying floppies and stuff, I havnt really done anything important on this laptop yet anyhow, only had it for like a week.
June 13, 200818 yr well what do you want to clean off the laptop? Just a few word documents, or do you want a secure wipe? DBAN cleans everything off the HDD, including the operating system so you will need to reinstall it before returning the computer.
June 13, 200818 yr Author Just a few passwords and stuff, I was just told by my brother that you have to clear it before returning it, not sure if it's true though.
June 14, 200818 yr You can't just delete you have to over write the old data to really get rid of it or else there will always be a shadow on your hard disk.
