The Aberrant Spectres near the small Summoning obelisk are not aggressive, however if you wish to kill them you need a Slayer level of 60 and you MUST wear a Slayer Helmet, as you need the protection of Earmuffs, Facemask, and a Nosepeg simultaneously.

I believe that "MUST" is far too string of a word, as it is possible to wear the muffs only only to get passed the banshees, and then switch to nosepeg for the spectres. Facemask is unnecessary--the smoke will drop u to 1hp, but will not kill you as long as you protect from mage so the spectres don't kill you either. It is dangerous, but effective for people who wish to train there before they get slayer helmet.

I think that the must should stay there. There are a lot of little way of getting around things that can actually be used for benefits (smoke dungeon fire giants). The emphasis is for the average user. We don't wont someone to read a guide and say... it's highly recommended but not needed. And then they die. And then they whine. While I have no official say this is kinda what I would think of the matter.

Though it seems to be a great place to use a cannon for a slay task!

I wasn't even aware you couldn't actually die from the smoke alone, but 1 hp... Yeah, I think "MUST" should stay there. As N_odie said, the general public will just assume it's not necessary and get pwned and whine to us about it :\
