EDIT: for got to tell you all, the unemployment rate in america is ridicouly low right now, why people freak out about this stuff is beyond me, currently there are more jobs then employess, and illegal immgration has also had drop 18% since last year, and like 50% since 2006

Dammit, join the masses and freak out with the rest of us! It's less fun to sit there and patiently wait for things to go back to normal :shame:

And yet, for some odd reason, my dad is over in Iraq, and he says gas in Baghdad is 30 cents a gallon in USD. OPEC needs to stop charging so much for gas. I guess I won't be moving much.

Try Venezuela.. 12 cents per gallon, or 3 cents per liter (compared to, say Finland with 1.6EUR/liter which is $2.56, 85 times more expensive). Venezuelans practically drive their cars for free.

You can easily see by the local prices that in reality, oil is a worthless substance in monetary value. It's price is only driven up sky-high because a handful of nations control nearly all the oil production in the world and can run cartels to determine prices (such as the OPEC). That+ shipping costs.

When other forms of energy become popular and cars running on non-petrol energy sources will become common, the price of oil per barrel will come crashing down too. Maybe some day western countries will have gas at 10 cents per gallon too.. But by then gas wont be the most popular source of energy anymore.

Gas is very expensive here as well. You pay 1.56 ($2.46) a liter. But I guess the Americans are used to paying not as much for it. I'm not really into this kind of stuff. But a vague friend of mine keeps on raving how America will be completely bankrupt in 10 or 20 years, and that they all will be riding scooters instead of cars. He also said that America would be super power-off when the Chinese started driving cars.

AARGH I hate it when Americans complain about gas prices- You have it freakin' easy. 4.09$, That's less than half of what Europeans pay- In Finland it is currently around 11$ per gallon.

Heh, Finland doesn't even have it THAT bad.

Turkey: $13 per gallon. You'd think that by geographical association, they'd have cheap oil and thus cheap petrol, but they don't.

Seriously, if gas cost as much in the USA as it did in Turkey, the vast majority of american society would collapse overnight. Almost EVERYTHING in society relies on petrol availability at affordable prices.

If gas prices rose that high, more people would be buying a diesel car and filling it with vegetable oil or such. (and even that has rose because people are doing that, over here it was about £4 for 6 litres, now a 3 litre bottle can cost around £3.50)
