blade995
i read the thread similar to this. Didn't help me alot. I tried installing a them from http://www.wincustomize.com , i downloaded winx thing from the other thread to make it work. The thing is though i installed it, and the screen went black, were none of my icons, and the theme was not fully working. I had to restart my computer, did nothing. To get it to work again i had to restore windows from yesterday. So i need instuctions on how to install it right. I thought everything was working, guess not. So help me. Thanks in advance
Zeldafreek
Well, sounds like you were trying to install a DesktopX Theme. I've never used DesktopX but when you use that it more or less changes the background, and adds DesktopX objects and Widgets too (I could be entirely wrong, I've used it for about three seconds). I find it much easier to use WindowBlinds which changes your start menu, toolbar, title bars, etc. and then add anything else you want with other programs. If you're set on using DesktopX someone else could be a thousand times more helpful than me.
blade995
ok, i might try windowsblinds. The only thing with desktopx (yes your right on the guess) is that it has the menu to see how much ram your using, CPU, Tempuature, ect. Which will be realy usefull to me. Can you do that on windows blinds?

Can you do that on windows blinds?I'm not sure. In any case, I would recomend using the application Serious Samurize simultaneously with Windowblinds to do that. It can do a lot more and has more options of configuration.
blade995
is that a skin program also? Or is that for like the system monitor buttons and stuff?
Olgath
If you really want to download visual styles, is suggest you download a uxtheme.dll patch. Windows has the ability to skin windows out of the box, but the skins must be digitally signed by microsoft. So far there are only like 2 that are signed(Luna and some other one). Patching the .dll allows you to use un-signed .msstyle visual styles. You could go the other route and download something like StyleXP or Windowblinds, but they are proprietary software, so you will either have to cough up the money, or be annoyed with reminders to buy their software.
