Fairy rings help tremendously in the stocking up on the bait and fishing; both are right next to the fishing spots. I would only advise cooking karambwan for boss fights if you don't want to buy sharks. Karambwan are just not efficient enough to stock up on. about the poison thing, yes they are poisonous. They poison at 5 for spears so even using them for poisoning really isn't worth it since the super poison is about 15k last time I checked.
