Plant strawberries or watermelons?

Featured Replies

I'm planing to start farming again, as I want to plant a spirit tree, and I only have 74 farming.

I've always planted most every patch, (except the useless ones, like hops) but with the sheer amount of experience I need to reach my goal, I'm wondering whether I should keep planting things like strawberries. I'm not in a terrible hurry, I mean I don't plant magic trees or palms, but I do plant things like papayas. I've been away for a while, so I'm gonna ask all our farmers here at tip.it if it is worth it to continue to plant such small things like strawberries and watermelons.

Just some in information, but I used to plant strawberries with seeds I bought, and only watermelons when I had the seeds from slayer. I will never stop planting herb seeds, I make too much money :) I also used to plant limpwurt seeds, as I made about 2k a seed, minus cost of deaths. I also plant poison Ivy bushed in 2, I think? of the bush patches, with the others being out of my way.

Oh, and I have next to a zero in summoning. Is it worth it to raise that first, before I farm?

Really, any comments are helpful.

I'd say go ahead and plant watermelons for sure. You can use them for both the experience, and you can make your own super compost out of them for free. :D You could always buy the seeds too for more experience, if your herb profits would cover that.

I'm kinda trying to make money from this too, you see, and using watermelons costs me double. I already use make s.compost using pineapples - I have hundreds of them!

Also, if you did not understand, I already plant the seeds I get from combat. I'm asking if I should buy watermelon seeds instead of strawberry seeds.

I stopped planting allotments because they were tripling the length of my herb runs to harvest, replant, and bank them. Since they don't even turn a profit, I didn't feel the experience was worth the extra time and effort spent.

I've thought about this as well, a lot. Do you have any idea how much time you saved? If It is enough, it might be cost-effective to just make money and plant a higher - level tree.

I don't know for sure how much time I saved, only that I can now do a complete 5-patch herb run in less than 8 minutes, which is a heck of a lot faster than what I got when I planted strawberries.

I would go with strawberries for the fact that you can collect them in baskets, meaning you only need to bank once per allotment. Using dualling rings or glory to Edge for banking means it doesn't add that much time on top of a standard herb run. With regards to your question about Limps, if you are after cash then plant marigolds as they sell for 3.5k ea due to them being a summoning second. If you want xp, limps give you an additional 342xp per run (using all 4 allotments). With regards to summoning using a bob helps with regards to banking, but I wouldn't worry about levelling it before you start farming again.

Hope that helps.

Bull Ant and Terrorbird help a lot while farming. Use them.

As for your basic question, watermelons. They sell for over 100 each.

Hmmm... Can you give me an idea of what kinda losses I'll be taking if I always use watermelons? I mean it's like 6-7k a patch! I guess that making compost will help, and you can take more watermelons with you, as a BoB can be used as well.

But I mean I have to plant Nasturtiums too, which eliminate my 2.5 -3.5k profit from limps/marigold. Not looking that great, although I know you get more XP.

I would estimate that the harvests you get might pay back just under a third of the cost of the seeds. You shouldn't need to plant nasturtiums; supercompost will do well enough, and it increases yield too.
