Is the combat triangle really a triangle?

We all know the combat triangle.

 

 

 

mage>melee>range>mage

 

 

 

But is it really a combat triangle? When I was bored one day i did some research about Runescape armory and weaponary.

 

 

 

Defensivly i think the combat triangle works but offensively it is a complete flop. Before you judge me just read me out here.

 

 

 

Range i think is really a stack combat skill. With range they have the enchanted bolts. The Diamond bolts(e) is what I am really talking about. It stated that the bolts has the chance to ignore a part of your opponent's Ranged Defence.

 

 

 

So the triangle isn't really a triangle. A mager doesn't have a skill that will help ignore the mage defence on an opponent. But wait a melee person can with a BGS to lower defence states. But since mage can freeze people that could be the reason

 

 

 

So i am just saying that it isn't really a triangle. I think the triangle a defence triangle and that for the offence it is more like a shape that i can't really think of.

 

 

 

P.S. I was looking at the armor that was ment to be worn together.

 

ex. respective barrow armor goes with that armor and so on, I didn't consider the use of mixing armor.

it would be a perfect triangle all of the time if you could only be one type of combatant. however hybrids(which is the majority of players i would assume) can flow between classes dependent on what type of attack they are receiving. for instance. if i am maging someone in c wars they will most likely switch to d hide to try and protect against my mage. they then can either range me or come in close to melee. on the other side i can notice that they have switched armor and pull out a cross bow and do some heavy damage. they either can accept that i am going to poke holes in them or switch to melee armor, which is a mage magnet. so really there is a triangle but it just isnt static. which while producing some disadvantages isnt really all that bad. how would you like it if all you could do was mage? or melee? it would be like guildwars except death and loosing items and no crazy super spells..

I like to think of the triangle as a very loose metaphor. Sure in theory it works, but there's a lot of "What if's" that exist, so it can never be a perfect comparison. And like Ares said, most PvP'ers are hybrids.

Hence why I have been suggesting for a while now to have a staff or wad or whatever other 1 handed item that allows you to auto-cast Flames of Zamorak... This spell not only does heavy damage, but also lowers your opponents mage level... And TADAA every "class" has something to target its own with

 

 

 

Your arguments are flawed though... The combat triangle does work, but you gotta know the true finesses of it :) I'd suggest you join an awesome P2P clan like mine :P
