September 6, 200817 yr Alright, so i'm just going to go right into it. When I first started playing i had alot of fun watching my levels progress and all that, like most of you all did when starting out, but over time it stopped being about that and started being about money always always always with the money [like most people are now] Now I know some of my fellow Tip.it'ers are about the game, and playing runescape for what it is, runescape, just a game, a game about role playing, not a game about the economy, as I, and most players has made it out to be. The strangle hold of the economy against the throat of the game isn't just about 'I want this" or "I want to be rich" its about "how can I get this skill level and still come out with some cash in my hand" I'm all for skilling, and combat and playing the game, but I don't like losing money, and i've noticed with the G.E. coming into play, as much as I love it, it's pretty much killed most skilling in my mind, the prices of EVERYTHING are set up so you lose money, it may be a little, it may be alot, but in the end you still lose. The only way to end up on top is to do ALL the work of collecting materials yourself which is extremely tiresome and time consuming [Which doesn't always work out with having a thing called.. uhh.. you know, a life!] and guess what, in the end, you don't even make that much money!!! I used to go fight dusties and the KBD and other monsters hoping for a really good drop, something worth millions, something so expensive I wouldn't have to worry about money after selling it. I told myself "Once I get that big drop I'm going to spend the money on my skills, and then i'll use that money to make even more money!, I just need that one drop" Well it never came, then again I usually only spent maybe.. 2 to 3 days max trying to get one specific drop then it was off on another [more rewarding most likely] money venture! it all got me nowhere. So to just shorten this all up, heres what I'm asking, I want to know how I can change my outlook on playing the game, change it away from money and move it towards the game itself, because quite frankly, the money is making me not like playing anymore. And I'm not asking for a suggestion like "dude go to pest control, its totally FREE!" I want to still be able to play the game and stuff and not have to worry about money. I just need a total 180, if you guys can help. Goals:Str: 86/90Hitpoints: 85/90Fletching: 96/99Fishing: 74/80Prayer: 61/70Woodcutting: 82/85Magic 80/80
September 6, 200817 yr Well... I like to mine. Pick a skill and set a goal. Maybe shoot for skill capes. THe game isn't so much about accomplisments as releiving stress. Which skills do you enjoy raising? Or do quests. The following skills gain money to train: Mining, woodcut, fishing, runecraft (at higher levels), hunter, theiving, mage (with nature spells sometimes)... I would try mining coal and superheating steel/mith/addy/rune depending on smithing level (you bring a pick, fire staff, and the metal ores, and convert the ores to bars). 26,974th person to get 85 mining on September 20th, 2008Try Ferion, it only takes a few minutes per day; you can play it while mining.
September 6, 200817 yr THe game isn't so much about accomplisments as releiving stress. QFT. If you're looking to have some fun, I would recommend Barrows, it's rather fun, for me anyway. But, I can't really help you unless you tell us what you like, then I can help you. Yes... Yes, that's what he said. :D
September 6, 200817 yr I'd say stop being so combat oriented. Play more of the mini games or other activities that are enjoyable and find a good chat. I've played for 3 years and have only one skill over 90. I'm definately poor for a player of 3 years. But I enjoy myself every time I log on and don't fret about the high scores.

Yes, combat is only a minor aspect of the game. Try variouse money skills, you might like one. And I made my account 6 years ago (quit for a while) and my highest stat is mining (84). But I got 189 quest points in 3 months of membership... Like I said not everyone is insane for acheivments. But if you are then that's not a bad thing either. 26,974th person to get 85 mining on September 20th, 2008Try Ferion, it only takes a few minutes per day; you can play it while mining.
September 7, 200817 yr Author Well right now I've got 99 fletching as a side goal, I'm currently at 92 right now, which is pretty good, I guess it's the halfway point or something exp wise? I also have 79 woodcutting but I'm worn out on woodcutting for now I might enjoy fishing my way from 70 to 76 to fish for sharks, its not a competitive skill is it? where if theres alot of people fishing a spot you'll get less fish? Because that's what I've always hated about woodcutting. Runecrafting is alright, I might look into that some more As for as anything else I'm kind of shooting a blank here Goals:Str: 86/90Hitpoints: 85/90Fletching: 96/99Fishing: 74/80Prayer: 61/70Woodcutting: 82/85Magic 80/80
September 7, 200817 yr Set total level goals. That way you'll be exposing yourself to a large variety of activities and rewards.
September 7, 200817 yr Author Zierro that actually sounds like a really good idea  Thanks, I never thought about that. It also reminds me about people who go by leveling all their skills up to say.. 60, and then all their skills up to 70. That sounds interesting and I might look into that too \ I think i'll do all this after i get 99 fletch though. Also does anyone have any ideas for a pattern of skilling, such as doing money making first, then skills you can pay for, then free skills. I know I wanna get away from the money aspect but I don't want to go broke skilling! lol Goals:Str: 86/90Hitpoints: 85/90Fletching: 96/99Fishing: 74/80Prayer: 61/70Woodcutting: 82/85Magic 80/80
