Thought I'd show an early WIP of what i'm working on. Things i'm going to be doing to it:

- The water. going to make it look a lot smoother.

- Texture Tweaks. Make it look more realistic basicly.

- Atmosphere tweaks.

- Vegitation and such. going to be adding trees.

- maybe more mountains in the background.

And of course post processing work, This is 100% vue with the exception of the boarder.

well... i give that back. part vue part World machine :)

So what do you think for an early WIP? Hopefully I can make something good this time, I've been doing some meh stuff latly.

EDIT:

new update. Used the masks like keiphius said, and damn it helps a lot! Well, I'm trying to set this up for a Teraspace, so i needed to make it darker. I also find it easiest to work in red for them, so its red atm (may change later on, but i usualy work with reds/yellows when i do a space scene, than work with color changes in the end.

So, any help? Some of the shadows or colors may seem off right now, but trying to start to take into concideration on whats happening up above :)

Has potential for a really great Terraspace scene... Go the distance!! It will look great.

Only thing I don't like is the choice of sky. A gloomy looking or stormy sky might fit better, especially if you plan on adding space up there.

PS: better quality preview pl0z?!

i'll see what i can do =D

and I know the quality is bad lol, why its a preview =P. Not going to spend hours rendering a preview -.-

The sky colouration is way too saturated, which clashes with the unrealistic texture and colour of the mountains. There's also some mistakes as far as lighting, bright clouds right on top of darkest moutains, etc...

Nice lake?

Thanks for the C&C there. It is fairly saturated, and now that i notice the sky doesn't quite match with the land.

Going to work on it a lot more tomorrow. Thanks for the help witty.

..::::The sky doesnt match too good with the lighting of the scene::::.

Yeah going to fix that today, going to darken up the entire scene realy.

Thanks gandorf, and i'm using vue :)

I'm hoping that when you say you haven't done any post, that includes color correction? That's what my cabbage looks like after I eat spinnage.

yeah, this came straight from vue. Like I said, only thing I realy did was add the boarder in photoshop.

and it is very cabbage like, mostly because of the intense atmosphere makes the whole scene realy, realy bright. When i darken it up it will look much better.

Actually, I was talking more along the lines of color, I don't think your intensity is that big of an issue...

Hope you don't mind the quick 2minute chop of your art....

ooh, very cool. i don't mind at all.

What exactly did you do with it? I mean like, I know what the results are of course, but what actions did you take to get to it? :)

Believe it or not, it's about 6 layers....

I seperate all the elements into different layers, and then just do a color balance on them. For instance, I paint a mask for the sky, and color balance it. Obviously a sky is blue, so I want more blue in my midtones and an increase in saturation. For the water and mountains I seperated them differently depending on where they were, and I color balanced them. Everything has a layer mask on it though, so I can erase color onto other areas where I want it. Some say it's overkill, but I have complete control over the image this way; opposed to just a color correction on the flattened image.

Mweh.

I refuse to comment on Vue renders :P

Which I'm just guessing it is by your idea to add vegetation.

And if it's not, smack me with Azvi for not knowing the difference and being away from the media board for too long.

Needs more mountains Zack, reminds me of the TG cutoff line in the background... though it can't actually be seen, it looks like it's right behind the mountains.

I think its a much better setup for a terraspace, but now that you are on a closer angle some flaws can be seen.

The biggest problem are those clouds. They look low quality at the moment, and look like there are some gradients in there. They aren't very powerful if you know what I mean, and clouds are supposed to be the awe-inspiring stuff in landscapes. :)

Next.. the texture. It looks like a pixel stretch. Its too grassy for a cliff like that, and in too uniform of a pattern. Try changing it to a rocky texture, or lowering/varying the amount of grass on the cliffs. And once it gets into the top area of the mountains, they look untextured.

However, on that shallow ground between the two lakes I think the textures look great.

The reflections in the water seem out of place when you look at the sky. Where did those reflections come from?

There are some black shapes in the lake closest to the bottom you might want to look into.

And lastly, the colours.. It seems green and blue. :? If thats from the sun, maybe it would be better to add your own colours in PS.

Anyways, great start, still looks like this part of it needs a bit of work. If you do finish it, I'm sure it will be great! :D

Thanks ven.

I'm doing some colorization in Photoshop, but probaly going to re-do this render in vue first, fix some of the stuff you sugested.

Also, the black spots are spots of land. I'll check into them though :P
