Any phpBB users out there? (Not a help request for once!)

Yeah, anyone else here use phpBB for styling/modding [modifying]/have their own forums/other? I find styling quite interesting, but have not yet managed to install a mod without breaking my installation. :oops:

 

 

 

Lately I have been styling (Working on converting subBlack to 3.0.1) and thinking about installing this mod, which could help my modding problems. And then some day I'm thinking of making my own, original theme that is just me, and not something that I have a particular goal for like a dark theme or converting a theme.

 

Here's hoping that I'm not the only one.

I used to make themes for 2.x; my favourite was my version of Hardwired, which is/was a theme for the coppermine gallery software :

 

Haven't touched styles for a long time though, but I really want to get into again, just... not a lot of time thesedays.

I have used PHPBB a lot in the past, and still have two PHPBB forums running on my server. But I have now moved over to a content management system called Joomla which has a forum module available if I need it.

 

 

 

I have messed with skins etc whenever I used PHPBB as I always wanted something a little different from any of the available skins. It's quite fun to be honest as I love CSS.

I'm actually working on my own foss forum system :lol: (Mostly just taking the good bits of various other forums systems and combining them into one. One of the major things is a firefox style one-click install for mods and styles :D I'm still just in the very beginning of it though, need to get a good bit of it done before I can recruit other people to help :| )

 

 

 

And I'm an smf person as well, but I know my way around phpbb :P

I tried SMF, and realized that I have used it before on another forum. I have to say, the interface is so cluttered, let alone the admin center... Imma stick with phpBB.

 

Also, simple mod installation is coming in 3.2.X, I've heard. And I want to try yours out, it sounds interesting. :)

Really? I've found it a lot easier to work with than phpbb, it just seems a bit more intuitive, IMO. (And it has easy mod/theme installation. XML style and done automatically, not like the weird phpbb format :P)

 

 

 

And mine is nowhere near done ( :P ) but the big things are gonna be one-click mod/theme install, gmail style use of ajax (for things like drafts, going from page to page, that kind of stuff), whispers (xmpp/gmail style in-site chat, something I coded a long time ago and have been looking for a place to use ever since :P), and an openid style thing to store profile info (like you can register for an account, type in your global id, and it'll fill in avatar, about me, location, all that fun stuff)

 

I doubt I'll ever finish it, but it's something fun to play with :

Yay, I just finished converting subBlack to 3.0.1/2, I'm going to redo the imageset though to make sure there's no copyright violation.
