Seeking New Printer

I am currently looking for a new printer. My current one, the HP PSC 2175xi all-in-one, hasn't been the most cooperative in the world. It refuses to work properly with the router so we're stuck printing from one computer, it's getting the "Press Enter to align cartridges" messages occasionally (I've found a fix for this but it's still annoying to keep having to do this now and again), doesn't seem to like any of the new cartridges we've bought for the color ink, forcing us to us the photo cartridge ink instead :wall: , and overall has been a huge PITA for the past 3-4 years that we've had it. :wall:

We're looking for something preferably around the range of $100 (that won't bite us as well in terms of ink price; reasonably priced ink in other words), is inkjet (laser's okay but it's not a must), is not HP (because the last few HP printers we've had really drove my family and I bonkers now), and is a copier-scanner-printer (fax is not necessary), and should be okay to use on a home network.

Computer & Network Info:

Router: D-Link

Computer OS: Windows XP for the desktops (Dell), Windows Media Center Edition for the laptops (HP)

RAM: 512MB for the desktops (Dell), 1GB for the laptops (HP)

Not exactly sure what other info is needed, but I will do my best to provide the necessary info when asked.

EDIT: Since details tend to be missed in paragraphs...

Preferred Brand: Anything but HP

Function: Multifunction (Printer-Scanner-Copier; Fax is NOT necessary but okay)

Black & White or Color: Color

Laser or Inkjet: Inkjet, but laser is okay if it is reasonably priced

Price Range: Around $100 (no more than $150 please; ink cartridges/toner must also be reasonably priced)

Connection: USB preferably

It'd help if you narrow down what you are interested in: brand, multifunction or just print only, B/W or color, laser or inkjet.

Personally, I love the Canon i860. I can get ink for less than 2 buck a piece. If you can find a printer that use the i860's inks, you're in the money.

Edit 1: Newegg is having a big sale on printers of all sorts

Well, I can tell you that Epson and Lexmark don't put out the best of printers either. So you might want to stay clear of them unless someone finally got it right on a printer or two. :-k

Although, I have to say, when the Epson we have here is working right, it prints beautiful photos. Problem for you is that this printer which I speak of is too old to find on the market anymore. :-s

I've got a Brother MFC 215C inkjet printer/scanner copier in 2006 and up to now its been pretty co-operative. Not sure if you can still get 215C's, but anything in that family is pretty good.

Thanks all! :) After some thought, I've narrowed it down to the Brother MFC-230c. :) Hopefully it works... And if not I'll come back and whine some more. Thanks everyone! :D
