Connecting to update server problem

Well, as the subject says, I'm currently having some problems with loading the RuneScape cache. This may sound weird but that could be because of the new client update or something. Ok, I have no idea. It was fine before. Tried to load new update stuff today and after a minute, waiting to connect to update server, I had this error message:

Error_game_js5connect - Unable to connect to update server.

RuneScape was unable to connect to the update server. This is most likely caused by a firewall blocking the connection.

To resolve this:

   * If you have firewall or security software installed, they can often block RuneScape from accessing its servers. Please ensure that RuneScape/Java can connect to its servers on port 43594.

   * Note: Windows XP Service Pack 2 has built in firewall software. If, when loading RuneScape, this asks if you want to allow the connection, you need to say 'yes'.

   * If that doesn't help, then an external firewall may be causing the problem. Please ask your network adminstrator/ISP to open port 43594 for TCP traffic so that RuneScape and Java can run correctly.

If problems persist, please refer to the Technical FAQs, which can be found in the Customer Support section of our website.

My computer is:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 HT - 3.0 GHz

Graphics: GeForce 5200 FX (64MB?)

RAM: 1GB DDR2

System: Linux Xubuntu 8.04 (2.6.24-19-generic)

System-2: Windows XP Professional SP2

Browser: Mozilla Firefox 3 on both systems.

Java: JRE+JDK 1.6 on both systems.

I don't think anything more is needed...

I checked how it works on both systems. They fail at the same moment when loading. Port 43594 is enabled through my Windows firewall. I don't know what about Linux's firewall, but it worked fine before 15-10-08 update.

Oh, and I need to add that I don't think I need any Java reinstall, I'm quite an Java programmer myself and my programs work fine. But if you persist I will do it :P

I hope to get some help soon, thanks in advance.

Is there any way you can try FF2 without messing up FF3? I am currently running WinXP SP2, FF 2.x-series, JRE+JDK (1.6-series) 6u6, and a GeForce 7300 GT (512 MB DDR2) with absolutely ZERO problems here. :geek:

About all I can figure is that, at the moment, Jagex blew it with FF 3.x-series. There are other people having similar problems, and I've noticed most of them are running a browser later than FF 2.0.0.16 ... :(

Thanks for the replies.

Well, I tried 2.0.0.17 on my Windows, but with the same results. Stops at connecting. I didn't try it on my Linux, though. It has some Ubuntu modifications stuff. I don't want to mess it up, but I doubt the results would change if I managed to change the version.

I've got some new updates today, including new kernel (2.6.24.21-generic) and some Java updates that didn't fix my problem, though.

I tried it on my ASUS laptop, Windows XP Pro SP2. Of course FF3 installed. I had Internet Explorer infected and I don't want to get this again, I just don't trust it :P But I tried to load the update and maybe it's a miracle but it actually managed to download the stuff :o Well, I tried to run Firefox after that. Ofcourse it used the Windows' RuneScape cache. But another interesting thing is that it worked on Linux either. But it used its own cache. Downloaded and it works. Wow. I have no idea what was wrong.

I guess the problem's somehow solved, but I've got no idea how was it solved. I don't want to run IE every update, but we'll see how long it will work.
