Yeah I wasn't sure how much power a GTX280 would take up, and it's always good to leave some room open for upgrades in the future.

Well, i checked around a bit just now.

http://www.bjorn3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26123 - 750W should be fine. Seems lower power PSU's haven't been tested with 280 in SLI. Altho (i've got two altho's) - I'd get a bit more power to be on the *safe* side and to be able to upgrade with some more hd's.

Second altho - If he want SLI i really wouldn't recommend it due to the price. I'd recommend a 4870x2 instead, but that's me.

I'll stop babbeling now.

Sounds good, but i would like 8 GB ram. Can the motherboard support that?

Also maybe a bigger hard drive ??

You don't need 8GB of ram, it's a waste of money.

1.5TB Hard Drive ($179) Big enough for you?

1.5 TB is great. ID just like 8gb ram, so Its there for the future, rather than having to get a whole new motherboard when i need it

You will need a new motherboard when upgrading anyways... Because both Amd/Intel will launch new cpu's during the next year. Socket 775 will stopped being produced next autumn (since Intel will have launched their new mainstream cpu's then)... And AMD will introduce the new AM3 socket.

And to be honest, you won't need 8gb. You need it for heavy programs (cad.. etc) or if you have a [cabbage]load of different programs running at the same time. But it's up to you. 4gb will go a long way. And DDR2 will slowly make way for DDR3.

I'll second the fact you won't need 8 gigs of RAM. Its really overkill. I help maintain computers for a CAD class and they run on 4 gigs flawlessly. You'll see the most bang for your buck ~2 gigs, but past that the performance increases is very minimal for general computing.

Look. If you're dead set on wasting money on 8GB than just order another pair of the Corsair RAM...

Even though it is completely unnecessary and you'll never notice a difference.

if you can wait a couple days, wait until the end of this month, intel's new stock is coming out...

with an extra channel of DDR and a new FSB technology, it blows anything AMD can put forth right out of the water.

core i7 is it's ticker...

read some reviews, AMD cannot really compete.

for graphics, go for a 260... if not a 260, go for an ATI 4850...

If he want's to spend like half his budget on cpu/ram/motherboard.. sure.

Yes, it supports tri-channel mode (bit performance boost from it instead of just dual-channel).

New FSB technology? It doesn't use FSB, It uses QPI.

And, it doesn't just outperform AMD... It outperforms all other non-i7 Intels too.
