July 9, 200520 yr Anyone saying that the concerts aren't doing anything is wrong. Canada has agreed to double their funds sent their over the next few years. While this falls shorts of the .7% GDP that was requested (Canada now falls in the .51-.52% region) it's definately a step in the right direction. Bob Geldof has now gotten nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. :). The concerts are a good thing.
July 10, 200520 yr The problem with these concerts and the online petition thing is that it generates a large number of what i call "slacktivists". people that are all talk about making poverty history but when it comes to donating serious money or working for these charities people dont give a toss. people that think that putting their name on a petition online is going to change the world... well it wont. you need to make an effort to help people. go to the protests. do some work for oxfam or sone of the 500 other charities involved in the MPH campaign and actually DO some good activism instead of clicking a few buttons and being all smug about it all because it only makes YOU feel better.
