I recently had to re-install windows XP on my laptop. I got it installed but when I try to log in it asks for a password. I never put a password on and I dont know how to change it. A blank password for "Administrator" account doesnt work. I dont know what else to try.

Here's one program that might help you: http://www.insidepro.com/eng/saminside.shtml

Read EVERYTHING before you start.

I'll edit in another program if i manage to find it, i had the link to the program bookmarked before but forgot to save my bookmarks before i formatted my hd a while back.

EDIT: Yes! I found the program i was originally looking for: http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/

If your harddrive/files are encrypted with EFS - data loss.

Again, read EVERYTHING before you start.

I haven't used any of these programs, but it's the only advice i can think of.

If you recently reinstalled it, without needing to retrive any important documents/programs etc... Then you could just do a simple reinstalling of the OS.

Don't forget to install the NIC drivers and configure your computer to receive an IP from your router (if that is your setup)

:?

When I look at device manager all these things are not installed Ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, network controller, pci modem, sm bus controller, video controller (vga compatible)

Do those have an effect?

:? :wall:

Yes, you need to install the drivers for them all. Get your drivers disks and install them, alternatively you could use another PC/Laptop to download them off the NET.

Without the network drivers you will not get network (That should be obvious).

Without video drivers you will get video, but it will not be optimised and games etc will run really slow or not at all.

Without sound drivers your PC will be silent.

Do you see a pattern here :)

I would recommend downloading them as the drivers on the disks can be outdated. The newer ones might be optimized, fix a security loophole, or even random crashes
