Black mask, buy it on the GE. Once you have 400 slayer points, you can buy the ability to create a slayer helm from the black mask and various other slayer headgear. This is better than the black mask because it also has defensive stats.

Just to make this clear - the slayer helm and the mask are two DIFFERENT items. The mask is a drop from cave horrors that boosts your melee stats when you're fighting your assigned slayer monster. It's the best helm to wear on slaying tasks.

But what if you're fighting something like Dust Devils, where you need to wear a facemask? The slayer helm is an item that combines all the slayer headgear (nosepeg, facemask, earmuffs) into one helm, and throws in a black mask to boost your melee stats as well! However, you can't just go buy one - you need to amass 400 slayer points, then purchase the ability to make one from a slayer master.

If you can use a slayer helm, there is no reason that you would ever need to use black mask.
