December 14, 200817 yr i have the updated version of java, but for some reason, it runs at 255,000k or more when i play runescape, while firefox runs at between 80k-112k? anyone have an explanation for this, and how to slow it down? And i do play on low detail 99% of the time, occasionally using HD for like an hour at a time, not when i checked the Processes. December 14, 200817 yr Java is a needy resource and is separate from Firefox. Why do you want to slow it down? If you want to free up memory, the only real option is to upgrade.

December 14, 200817 yr I don't know your exact memory specs or your OS, but I can at least suggest that you "limit" the amount of memory that Java is permitted to use. To do this, go to your Control Panel (assuming Windows), click on Java, and go to the Java tab. Then, from there, click on the Java Applet Runtime Settings, then select the most current Java that you have (should be 6 update 11). Now, there's going to be a section that says "Java Runtime", and in there, you will type in -Xmx256m. That should prevent Java from running too wild. Still, let's hear your specs. I can't really say what's causing the problem for sure unless you give those out. December 15, 200817 yr What is the "2.79Ghz" if you already have a 2.80Ghz Pentium 4? I was just thinking that, but then I noticed the .01 difference between the clock speeds. Trivial, at best - I can assume 2.79GHz for this. I was hoping for your current graphics card and Java version, but that's fine. It could be that there's some sort of hardware bottleneck someplace, or that you don't have quite enough memory. Tough to conclude on that, really. Get back to me when you've tried the -Xmx256m option.
