I'm currently in the 12th grade (senior year at high-school) and i hope that in june i will graduate it, pass all the exams and ill be aiming for university. I live in Romania, Bucharest (capital of Romania ,to be exactly).

 

Just a quick brief of my intentions on the near future.

 

So i thought: Why not apply to a foreign university, in Europe or U.S.?

 

Could someone who lives there, explain me the system (exams to get in, taxes, grades)

 

Any piece of good advice is welcome. :

well i dont know much about the taxes, but tuition for non-residents usually runs about $40,000 (US dollar) per year. At least that is how it is in california US where i live. As for the exams, you need to take the SAT's and that is pritty much it. Grades are in the A,B,C,D,F scale what ever that is called.

In college its based off of a Point Scale. 4.0, 3.5, 3.0. etc... as far as the SAT goes you may also need to take the ACT. depending on which school you are looking into.

There are two types of education system in universities: four-year and two-year. In two-year system, you can graduate earlier and have more flexible options--either continuing your education further or taking a full-time job. In four-year system, you have the advantage of absorbing more higher technical stuffs (depend on your major) and earning more annual wage when graduate.

 

 

 

Taxation rate is different from states to states, those with good surrounding (i.e. great education, low crime rate, etc) generally have higher tax rate, but not all of them.

 

 

 

The grading system goes in two ways, depending on professors' preference: A to F with - and + signs included, or 1-4 (where 1 is equivalent to F and 4 to A).

 

 

 

Most universities offer scholarships and part-time jobs based on your grade, social activities, etc. Check them out if you plan to pay off the tuition.

 

 

 

As for exam, you can apply for either ACT or SAT, though SAT is currently the most widely accepted type.

More info: After im graduating high-school (which is a lvl1 arhitecture training, i'll get a certificate that im a draftsman and i'm able to make projects, and that the half way to the function of an arhitect, so i need to do the arhitecture university for that.

Architecture universities are scattered throughout the country, you need to provide which states you want.

 

 

 

I think some of the best architecture universities are in California.

If you come to the US, you might have to take the TOEFL to show you know english.

If you need help with money, there are plenty of foreign student aids available, particularly on the West and East coasts here in the U.S. I would, however, recommend that you just come over here without that. Much more genuine experience. But, your call really.
